The cost of baling hay

These were for what they call 4x6 round bales but yes ridiculously price for just baling given the price that it could be bought in the field for $5 per bale more. Of course you would have had to add hauling cost to that to get it in the barn. I think he said he had some delivered for $45 a couple weeks ago.

You can't use some ridiculous price to compare to buying hay.

I can get all the 4 x 6 made I want for aboot $8 a peice.

$45 a bale must be some real carp hay.

We have a pasture on our farm with Tall Fescue..it has grown to about 3 ft. high...I am meeting a neighbor our there tomorrow that wants to cut it for hay...which saves me from bush hogging....but for the first time in over 30 yrs...it has turned dark brown...My wife drove by there this afternoon and just told me the whole field is dark brown...??? What caused that...? Do you think he will still want it for hay..? I have no clue...Thanks.

The screwy spring weather along with no rain.
The fescue & orchard grass we are cutting here in mid. tn. has matured about 30 days faster than it normally would because of the lack of rain.

I guess it will depend on how bad he needs the hay.
Like i stated ours is the same way & we still like about 350 acres being done.

same thing happened here your hay matured early and is dieing now it will still make hay but all the nutrition is gone once the stems turn yellow but it still helps keep what ever you feed it to warm in the winter if it goes to long it's only good for straw you can still sell that to local farm supply if you square bale it or thats the case here our hay is real thick and has good under growth but the tall grass is no good.what caused this for us is we had the warmest march i have seen in my life time and things just got a month head start.good luck with hay

Kwswan and Sam.....Thank you both for your replies....you answered my question....We did not hardly have a winter here...and March was warm like never before ..we had 80 deg days a few times. I am meeting my neighbor this AM at the farm...I will see if he wants it...I hope so ...saves me from bush hogging this particular pasture...It is always a tough one to bush hog when the thick, tall fescue gets this high...Thanks again
