The cost of baling hay

/ The cost of baling hay #21
I am meeting my neighbor this AM at the farm...I will see if he wants it...I hope so ...saves me from bush hogging this particular pasture...It is always a tough one to bush hog when the thick, tall fescue gets this high

I met with my neighbor and we drove the whole farm...not just the one pasture and wants to cut and bale it all....It was not as brown as my wife thought...just the seed heads...He was glad to get it and I was glad not to have to bush hog...We are both happy.

Last years cost was $27 a bale with a 2 bale an acre minimum, heard its was going up alittle more this year, just not having the yields...

Those are crazy numbers. What makes it worth that much?

our baler man didnt set a min # of bales on us.because he knows he will cut between 125acs an 150acs.but he did say those with less than 100acs are having a rough time finding any1 to bale their hay.i know 2 guys that have less than 30acs ea an im wondering if they will find any1 to bale their hay.

Ongoing drought conditions carrying on from last year. Hay is literally 5x-10x more expensive in SW states than midwest.

I don't quite buy that.

Fuel is cheaper in TX. Right?

You dont have to buy it,I did already. I also had to payed $80 for 4x5 Rice hay out of Marque and had to haul it 40miles home, 33 rolls. End of last year paid $100 roll 5x6 bales out of fairfield from a guy at work david walker, 20 rolls.I also bought 10 rounds of $100(may have been $125)Alfalfa from Mr.Lancaster out of fairfield.

Fueled up today for $3.79/gallon.

4x6 rolls of hay were selling for $120/roll last winter.

Thanks JESSE!! I mean I didnt wonna have to pay it but really didnt have a choice last year.
I just texted the guy who baled it last year(A friend I went to school with) $27 a bale with a 2 roll an acre minimum, still this year...(my meadow is 30ac.)(added another one this year 40ac.)
Mr.Stan that is a very good price if you can get some good hay for that, that would be a great deal. I talked to someone in fairfield that just baled 5x6s,and he is asking $60 ,you haul. Im gonna hold off and see what I make first cutting on both places.
