One thing about storing a vehicle in a container, it gets hot in the summer. It helps to paint the top white, but in Oklahoma it still gets very hot.

Second thing, install a shroud over a hasp that locks the two doors together. The locking bars are good for sealing the doors, but they are not high security.

it looks like you should sell the concealed weapon? It didn't do much good.

****. Sorry you had to go through that. One thing I do to my containers (some come this way) is take some 10 ga (1/8"" or thicker) steel and weld up a little lock-box that shrouds the padlock itself to prevent them from taking bolt cutters to the lock. The little "box" is on the three exterior sides and leaves only the bottom end access to the keyway open. You can really get SILLY about protection if you like. One contractor-friend got tired of things "walking away," so we built a false-end in the back (no way to tell unless you ran a long tape on the inside) using a cruddy container being sold for scrap because it was damaged. I imagine you don't necessarily need the corrugated type ends to disguise your false-end but anyhow..... we just ran a regular extension cord to it with the earth dug down a little and entered the container through a grommet in the bottom. There was also a battery-back up using several car batteries and an interter in case the cord was disconnected/stolen etc, or if there was just a cooincidental power outage. Laptop computers are getting cheap. For this system, you'll need that and a wireless card (Verizon has them as do most wireless carriers). We ran a 20' pole up from the top of the container and disguised security cameras under the floodlight set up (ironically, the flood lights weren't even operational in our set up although it would not be hard to do). There was already additional lighting at night on this job. The contractor could now dial up the cameras from anywhere! he could be in his office, at home, anywhere and view the cameras and see who was doing what and sitting on their butts and even people there that werent supposed to be, etc. I dunno if this would help you as you are pretty removed from civilization there, electricity, etc. I know one member suggested a deer-camera. Sounds like a heckuva idea to me although if the bad-guys saw a "flash," they might just tear up your camera.. You'd have to disguise it and use infared I guess (sorry, not familiar with the game cameras.

Wow. An old one and lucky to see it up again. I did make such a box for the container out of 1/4" plate. I reach up inside to unlock the rotary style padlock. Only negative is that spiders and bees like to build nests in the open bottomed box.

I didn't see this thread the first time around but i see you've decided to cover the lock. Good idea. Though it makes it difficult with the spiders and bees. I was reading this and thought of the "box" to encase the lock. That's one of the better ways to go in my opinion. Most people don't realize (as I didn't until a few years ago) that a "dangling" lock is not challenge to a fellow weilding a 24"+ "crescent" wrench. Just adjust it to fit the longer sides of the lock and go to twisting. I guess master locks are bullet proof but not wrench proof! Anyway, good thinking on the lock box.

I have a shrouded gate lock that is horizontal...in the spring Carolina Wrens like to build a nest in it...makes for quite a surprise to reach in and have a bird fly out into your face...
I now look in real good before reaching in...

Well he's probably living there by now, but how about a doorbell button and a peek-hole? My imagination works overtime on what the button could be connected to..

Mark your container as containing extremely hazardous toxic waste. Can't pawn or resell toxic waste for profit, it's hard to handle safely, and there's nothing glamorous about it to attract bored teenagers.
