Around here, anything covered up like that, just becomes a home for mice ect., to get out of the weather!

That's the reason I don't cover mine...

That's always a concern, but I'm balancing a couple of factors. Originally these were dry steering clutch machines, and keeping water out is a good idea. Some have been modified to wet steering clutches, but I haven't had time to sort out if that's been done to mine. I'm sure when it was new water wouldn't find a way into the clutch housings, but after 33+ years I'm not so confident. This is really a temporary measure as it will be moving into the barn before long. In reality there are plenty of places on the machine that mice could decide to live in whether there's a cover or not, so I'm not so sure it really matters.

When I had the previous dozer parked 25ft away a snake took up residence in the battery tray and nothing was covered...not sure which I'd rather have

Looks very nice!

Thanks....still need to paint the bolts and washers!

I used a coat of POR-15 rust preventative paint on the screen, then covered that with a coat of Magic implement paint from TSC....POR doesn't like UV exposure, so you have to cover it with something. I suspect most of the rest of the machine will rust before that screen will!

The mice loved to get in behind the instrument panel on my D3... happened several times and each time damage was done from chewing wires or gnawing through the oil pressure gauge line... I would start up and find a oil dripping on my boots.

I put some bounce fabric softener pads behind the instrument panel last time and it did not happen again.

The other place was under the seat on top of the battery.... never did any damage... just made a nest.

That's what you get for having functional gauges

Cover looks good. Some type of mice control would be a good idea.

Maybe I can attract a feral cat....put out cap nip and food? A cat for the CAT, so to speak!

I too have used dryer sheets in my Cat 305 that lives outside year round. Never an issue...
