The dozer search...

It's funny, but I think the line that started leaking might be the same one you replaced. I think the leak started after I raised the tractor with the blade to check the rollers. The leak appeared to be along the top of the C frame and between the two vertical upright supports for the lift cylinders....which would be an easy place for mud to collect. Regardless, I like the idea of a $40 weak link!

I've seen other folks say to keep the radiator clean and watch the temps, so I'll be sure to do that....I was happy to see the coolant temp gauge worked when I ran it the other day. Now I'm just waiting for the delivery call :)

Have that part ordered and should be delivered tomorrow for my D3C. Along with the hose that connects to it.

Wish I had the part number... it makes the connection inside the upright.

Included a picture of mine at rest in the back 20... nothing but steep in any direction.

Pretty sure that's the same part they're replacing on mine....I'll get a parts manual for it after it shows up, and check the hose on the other side just to be safe!

I'm sorta glad I don't have those sort of drop offs to work around!

I guess that's why the mechanic at the dealer wasn't surprised when I showed him where the leak was!

I think right and left are the same...

It sure was a learning curve... never had operated one before and ridges and canyons is what I cut my teeth on... I was very cautious and sensitive to tip angles...

What I did find out is I could only do a few hours of hillside trail blazing before getting sloppy and that was time to quit...

Anything buy hillside no problems.

By sloppy I mean stepping on the wrong pedal and moving the wrong way... it only takes a moment to find yourself in a predicament.

One time I was working at the bottom of a draw... the ground was steep and sandy and the dozer was stuck until the fall rains came... a few days after the first good rain and drove out like it was nothing...

I don't care what anyone says... there are optimal times when the conditions/moisture are just right and times when it isn't... plus poison oak is a B***H

They are on mine, just have to make sure you are looking on the correct parts diagram by Serial number of your machine. Some of the parts numbers change as the machines get newer.

Very nice. Hope you post some action pics. For me, there is nothing quite like seeing the dirt roll off the top of the blade

Nice machine. My dad sold his D4D dozer and 941B loader couple years ago to my neighbor. They had been sitting for over 15 years but was running when left sitting. I kept the area around them mowed so access was good. My neighbor owns a grading company and paving company. His 955 loader was in need of repair so he bought both of these machines. They were good older machines and all he had to do was get them running and run them over to his adjoining farm. Took him a couple hours to get them up and going.

Around here Caterpillar sells better than Deere or Case. I remember dad getting the undercarriage reworked on both machines years ago. They were both in really good shape for the years.

Good luck with your machine. I am sure that you will really enjoy it.

Thanks guys...I just saw the latest posts (not sure how I missed them). So I had a bit of a scare with the dozer, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing. Sometimes I would put the transmission in 1st and nothing would happen, then I'd put it in 2nd and it would move, then going back and forth sometimes 1st would engage. Needless to say, I was pretty worried! Today I spent some time and found out that the selector lever needs to be inboard a little bit (towards me) to engage 1st for some reason. I suspect the linkage needs to be adjusted. Once I figured that out, the problem was gone and it engages every time.

It's going to spend the winter in the barn, and probably inside when it's going to be parked for a while as well, but I wanted a way to keep water off it when I want to leave it outside. Luckily, my neighbor started doing upholstery over last winter because he just finished building a boat (wooden 35ft inboard sport fisher style) and need to do the cushions, a cover, etc. I got some Sunbrella fabric from a boat cover shop that was closing, and today we came up with the pattern, and my neighbor sewed up the cover....I think it came out pretty well!

Never seen a cover for a Dozer... I do agree weather protection and more so rodent protection can't hurt... very clever!

I don't know how much difference it will make, but I figured it can't hurt to keep the important stuff dry. The fabric is supposed to breathe, so it shouldn't trap moisture. I'm eventually going to reorganize the barn to make space for it, but I figure it'll be fine outside when I'm using it frequently. I wasn't going to pay someone to make a cover, but when my neighbor said he'd gotten into upholstery over the winter it was a no-brainer...he's always looking for projects.
