The endless debate - Husky or Stihl?? Why??

If looking at comparable saws, you would not go wrong with either. Both brands are very good. I would look at the price though, to make sure you are comparing the right saws. I would not expect that big a difference in price, unless it's a special sale.

Ouch, the hurts. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Oh wait a minute, I actually have three saws. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif Now, only if I knew how to juggle. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

It was good to hear Husky is an equally fine product, but the only place I've found them is Lowe's so I'll forego buying one there.

Excellent choice. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Wow, another 61 Rancher. I'm not positive how old mine actually is, my mother-in-law thinks it was bought in 1990. Since it lacks an anti-kickback safety, I don't plan to use it too much anymore, especially under questionable conditions. I still plan to take the old gal out every once in a while and give her a good revving. Enough about the wife. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

How much does a fuel line go for? My massive $0.29 repair was the fuel line replacement; the old one gummed up. I went to ACE hardware, and bought section of nylon tubing for $0.20 and a gromet for $0.09. That repair also fixed my dripping problem.

Husky, Stihl or Jonsenred. All legendary and good saws. I guess it boils down to which one feels right, the most comfortable in your hands. I just bought a Stihl 021 cause I like the feel and heft of it, plus it's pretty light so it don't wear me down if I'm using it for an extended period of time.

Really both are excellent saws. Both companies make pro grade and homeowners grade equipment. In the western US, Stihls are just about the only saws used in the professional forestry/logging business. But this could simply be a regional thing. Maybe Huskys are more common in the eastern US?

I bought a Jonsered 16" at an auction and it had not been run in five years. It would not start so I got it for fifty dollars. When I got it home I put fresh gas in it and it started on the third pull. It has served me well for three years and does a great job. It always starts and runs smooth and has the power to cut fast and safe.

Older saws are not bad saws/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif My Husky dates back to the early 80's. The local shop does not know the model though... They think it's a basic equivilant to the newer 385. I got it from a work friend, who's brother had it. He had passed away, and Pete was selling some of his stuff. The model tag was busted off. I paid $100 for it, and put $25 into a tuneup, chain, and fuel lines 10 years ago. That saw works great!

My Dad has a Stihl O24 that my Grandmother got him for christmas '82(after talking to a few sawyers). That saw works awesome still. It has anti vibe and chain brake. That saw is very smooth and powerful for a small-mid size saw.

I would only like to get a new saw because Husky has a sweet arborist saw that has awesome balance and power for a very small machine. My old saw is rather large for trimimming 2" stuff and limbing ect.

I bought a John Deere professional saw and I think it is as good or better than anything else I have used or seen. I have not seen any other large saw that idles so smoothly. I don't know who makes these saws for JD but they seem to make a good saw. They are not cheap though.
