The JD Cut Wheel Spacer Answer Thread

Dear Jim,

My name is Vince. Long story short, I and looking for wheel spacer for a John Deere 3720. I called Skid Steer Solutions, however, they are not sure what spacers you actually bought. Can you please help me with getting the right part number. I just want to be sure that I'm ordering the right spacers for this tractor.

Vince, I emailed your hotmail account with a reply. If you re-read this thread you will get the right ones. Back at post #28 I give good details. If Skid Steer Solutions is out of stock of the RED colored 9/16" stud 8-bolt spacers now, I'd pay them and wait if you can. If not, it may be worth a try to buy the 5/8" stud 8-bolt version. These will fit tighter, so its a slight gamble. The rims may have to be reamed very slightly to allow the studs through. This would not hurt them, the nuts are acorn anyway. Be sure to locktite the heck out of everything, and give it all about 10% too much torque.

Dear Jim,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply, help and knowledge. It's a nice feeling knowing that there are still people left in this world like you! I own a lawn mower and small engine repair company in Maryland. One of my lawn mower customers wanted me to switch over the tires on his John Deere 3720 to a turf tread tire. I ordered them from somewhere out in the mid-west. Long story short, when they arrived and mounted I realized that the back tires were 18 inches wide instead of 16 inches like the original tires. Other then routine servicing of his tractor I'm not all that familiar with tractors so, needless to say I was in a little over my head. Thank you for pulling me out!

Hey guys, brand new to this site and I appreaciate all the advice I've been reading. I've got a JD3520 with a 300CX loader with a 60D belly mower. I've been up in the woods lately getting firewood and clearing trails and I was amazed how unstable it is on slightly uneven ground. I've already had it up on 3 wheels several times. After reading the posts I've ordered some Unverferth 6" spacers for the rear and can't wait to get them on. Question is, has anyone put spacers on the front?

Sounds like I should look into them as well. I have a 4105 and will have to research what will fit. I am in the woods a bunch and wouldn't mind more stability? Are there any drawbacks to the spacers? Why wouldn't JD just manufacture them wider? Or at least offer it as an option?

Spacers on the front typically do little good since the front axle will simply tilt to keep the tires on the ground (up to a point

).

Is anyone NOT happy with 6" spacers for the rear and wish they would have went with 4" instead?

I considered both, and went with 4" MotoSport aluminum spacers. They are lighter and considerably less expensive than 6" steel Unvenferths. Reason I went with 4", is the aluminum rear axle housings. The widest 3x20 rear setting is 68" with R1 tires. That suggests to me that it's the max width that JD wanted to see stressing those aluminum housings. A pair of 4" spacers on my R4 tires widened me to what I consider a safe 67.8 inches. Six inch spacers would have taken me out to a more stressful 71.8". Those places that used to put my stock 3720 up on three wheels - don't any more. There's amplifying info with photos here.

Johnnycat i do not know what tires you have, but i have the small r4s on my 3720 i have the 6" spacers but i put my wheels back on in the narow position which made them more like 5" spacers. As far as the spacers for the front they are not nessasary because you just have to flip them around. (with directional tires you need to change them from one side of the tractor to the other.) Hope this helps.
