The JD Cut Wheel Spacer Answer Thread

Welcome Tony!
How much space is that per side? Looks like you used the whole 4 inches per side. Good plan.

Seeing this thread makes me think I should be thinking about widening out. Now I am set on narrow, valve stems out. I thought if I turned my wheels around it would be wider than a 72" RFM but after reading measurments here it sounds like I could swap side to side and add 4" per side. Can anyone confirm this? My property is steep but mow able {using common sense} rolling grass and tree covered. But wheels should be set wide for added stability! Always something new to buy! :D

does anyone know of spacers made for the 2520 series?

This looks good. I have been wanting to do this for some time myself. Looks like I will be ordering some red ones.
Thanks for all the info.

Well my spacers showed up today. We are getting a bunch of snow here, so I will be out blading driveways tomorrow. Want to get them put on and see if it makes a difference. They look like they are of good quality.
I will post when I get them on.
The company said that they are selling most of these for CUT tractors now since the word got out.

Thanks for the comments and welcome, guys.:)

Yes, Jim, I used the full 4 inches per side and would count that as the minimum I would be content with now. I wouldn't say it feels 100% safe, but much, much better. On a particularly uneven bit of ground it still managed to feel bit tippy. I was very glad I had the spacers on.

Dutch, I simply cut off the right rear anti-scalp wheel. I'm mainly mowing pasture of several acres at a time and I don't think I'll miss it. There's not much incentive ATM to cart the deck to an engineering workshop to get it welded on again in a slightly different position to clear the tractor back wheel - but I might do this later......or not.;)

Anyway, I hit a stump with the mower and traumatized it a bit the other day. I was able to get it functioning OK again, but it's probably only a matter of time before it's in the workshop for repairs etc - so that might be a good time to get the amputated anti-scalp wheel re-attached.

JD3520 Turbo, I'm betting you won't regret getting the spacers - let us know how you go.

Cheers
Tony

Just a quick thanks from the sunny Adelaide Hills for this thread.:)

As a direct result, my new tractor underwent a transformation today. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that the stability has probably improved immensely. My peace of mind certainly has.

The only downside is that I had to amputate the back RHS anti-scalp wheel on the self-connect MMM. Not sure how vital this is, but it will be welded back later in a slightly altered position.

I know the altered perspective looks like it was designed to emphasize the changes, but it that wasn't my plan - just happened to be the way I took the pics - might have been some subliminal psychology.

Anyway, I'm rapt that I will feel so much safer, having read lots about the "tippyness" of the 3000 series AFTER I signed the contract to upgrade from my previous 2320.

Cheers
Tony

Hey Tony which ones did you order? My rear tires on my 4720 with R1's are about 64" outside to outside, so with 4" on each tire I would be at 72" which is what my bucket is....Also my tiller is 75" so I know I need to be smaller than that...My other question is you what website are you guys ordering from?

Tony being from Aus I'm wondering where you purchased them from ? The ones on ebay seem to only ship in us and cad.

G'day Jerry and Roy.

I emailed Skid Steer Solutions in the US and they put me onto the Australian rep, Craig Ireland (craig@skidsteersolutions.com) who had stocks in Brisbane.

Great people to deal with. Craig was extremely responsive and helpful when a glitch caused by the courier company they used resulted in a bit of a delay in the delivery.

Cheers
Tony
