The Laws Of Nature According to TBN

There is absolutely no question that the fastest way to find a missing tool or part is to purchase a replacement. The missing one will show up as soon as you return with the new one.

Plus 20 on that. I have lots of 'spares' and I misplace them as well....

My recent tractor failure fits the 'Law of Nature/TBN' exactly.

Was heading out to do a chore when my FEL decided it did not wish to come for the ride.
It dropped and firmly protested.
Only recourse was to drag it as I drove home in reverse leaving a one mile trail of skid marks.

Cause was failure of the linkage that drove the crankshaft linked hydraulic pump that was dedicated to the FEL circuit.

I used the occasion to rebuild all the linkage and the pump as well.
Fortunately I obtained all the necessary components (spline linkage, pump seals etc) from same source and the fix was total less than $50.

Can't complain since that DIY front pump installation was 15 years old and now better than new.

No matter how many tools you cram into a belt, tote, bag or box, once you get up the ladder, you'll be missing at least one that you need.

Remember that from my apprentice days, climbed 200' up a radio tower with the 'right' tools unaware that another crew had replaced all the junction boxes with metric fittings, back down for the new 'right' tools.

And with global outsourcing and domestic assembly, the machine you are servicing, you better have imperial and metric at hand. :mur:

Oh and then it's an 11 mm nut and you only have 10 and 12! You would think metric would be so easy and yet I run into that all the time. What, someone decided that certain sizes aren't that important?

Yeah...just like me a couple days ago...my "in the garage" tool box is full of 1/2 inch wrenches and what I really need is a 13mm.

I threw the last of my ballasts away when I switched to LED direct drive tubes in the fixtures. They require no ballasts, no ballasts to fail, no ballasts to hum, no ballast to make heat and waste energy. Good by fluorescent tubes. I won't miss ye. More light, much less energy. A good move forward.

Hyperikon 4 Foot LED Tube, T8 T1 T12 4 Watt Replacement (18W), Single End Ballast Bypass, Clear Lens, UL, DLC, Crystal White, 4 Pack - - Amazon.com

How do you by pass the ballast? Looks like you can use the same fixture but a 都imple ballast bypass is required. That word “simple” when used with electrical is always a warning sign to me.

That's for sure, I make sure I have both sets close at hand. And regarding some sets leaving out certain sizes...many years ago I was working on an early 80's Chevy truck needed a 18mm...my set didn't include one.
Every time I think I have every tool I need they invent another fastener head design: torx, security torx, clutch, square drive, on and on.

The reason they invent new tools is to sell things to people that already have every other one.
