Good by fluorescent tubes. I won't miss ye. More light, much less energy. A good move forward.

Plus they work when the temperature gets below 30°. Maybe not a big deal where you live, but it sure is here.

Why is it when I am moving a rope, extension cord, strap, hose, whatever... it will inevitably hook on every last possible catch instead of coming merrily along without issue... but if I was trying to snag something on purpose, I couldn't do it to save my life! :confused3:

No kidding! Likewise, a cord that was neatly coiled when it was put away ties itself into multiple knots while in storage.

I save all sorts of stuff that I save "in case I ever need it", and when I finally do need it, I can't find it. The day after I buy a new one, the old thing I was saving reappears. Never fails.

This goes double for a misplaced tool, especially one you need NOW. Best way to find it is to get cleaned up/change clothes, go to town and buy a new one. The old one will magically appear while you're gone. :confused3:

Years ago a fellow bought an old house, in the attic a cigar box labeled "pieces of string too short to save".

A clean garage workbench will inevitably soon be occupied by an item(s) placed there by Sharn Jean.
Small tools like needle nose pliers and wire cutters will mysterious disappear and reappear in Sharn Jean's sewing machine drawer, unless and until similar items are purchased as a Christmas gift.

I have noticed that before. Touch a rope and it becomes terribly tangled. If you threw said rope into a bush to save your life, it would come free as silk. I have a name for this but can't say it here.

As for the LED retrofits. Do they give as much light as purpose built four foot fixtures. Glad to hear they don't have RFI issues.

Many of the retrofit tubes work with the ballast. I bought some grow light LED tubes and you had to put 120 across the sockets. More confusion!

Ha funny, after two years and having given up on it, a few months ago I finally found my favorite needle nose pliers in my wife's sewing drawer as well.

To help combat loss of hand tools, I have bought many for the wife to keep in her work area. A woman needs her own tool kit depending on what kind of work she does. Linda has side cutters, needle nosed, duck billed, her tape measures, her hot glue guns, hot wire cutting tools ,tweezers, etc. I have made her some specialized tools for use in the flower making and beading and ribbon construction projects. If a woman is at all "crafty" she needs tools, and good ones too. Don't just wish off your old harbor freight cast off's on her either. Buy her quality tools when ever possible. She will appreciate it, and the big side benefit is you will likely be able to find your own tools a lot easier too!.

Who said anything about replacing the fixtures? I just threw away the ballasts , checked and made sure the tombstones weren't shorted out, and plugged in the LED tubes in place of the fluorescent tubes. No repainting, no replacing of fixtures. No worries. I am busy enjoying the money savings, the fact they come on in the garage when it is freezing cold, and the extra light. I don't see any downside. OH, on top of that they don't make any RFI either.

I did that with 45 8' fixtures in my barn. I would have kept the fluorescents if they would have consistently worked. In cold damp weather, I would be working in the dark.

I had a guy come out and he gave me a quote to do the work. I told him OK, and I never heard from him again. Screw it. I felt better about doing the work myself. It took me a while, because I didn't rent a lift, and I putzed at it over time. Saved a bunch of money.

^^ But you got it done, and like you said it saved a lot of money.

Claw hammers will hook anything in close proximity .... except the nails you want to pull.

If your paint is only available in 1 gallon sizes, your project will require 1 gallon and 6 ounces.
