I have always used Bostitch flooring guns that use 2" staples. (Bostitch BCS1516 staples) Really don't know anything about the HP unit. We did have one member, Richard, that bought a Bostitch factory reconditioned gun on E-bay for a one time job and then resold it with his left over staples, on E-bay, for what he paid for it.

Ok, I have read the reviews, do I hear a big {gasp} if I say I am going to go buy the HF 2 in 1 flooring stapler?
2-in-1 Flooring Nailer/Stapler

Cleats or staples....Lee...Mark?

Rick,
If you buy it, either get the warranty on it at check out, or look at the purshase as a one time use thing. I bought a Central Pneumatic 20 gauge wide crown pneu. stapler from HF. I used it to put up hardware cloth in my barn ridge vents. Oiled before and after use. Now, a two months later, it does not work. Don't know if it was the gun malfunctioned or the Marvel Mystery Oil I used over the oil that came with the stapler. Two weeks ago, I bought the 18 gauge Brad Nailer and it still works well, over two weekends use.
hugs, Brandi

M7, I too have stuck with the Bostich flooring stapler. I do know a few installers that have the HF gun and are happy with it, just can't vouch for it myself. I can tell you DO NOT get the 3 in 1 that Home Depot sells for like 150.00. I picked one up as an extra gun and it was horrible. I took it back. It would wad up every 8th staple, very aggravating. The Bostich flooring stapler is not cheap but you can rely on to work right. Also as mentioned above get quality staples. Trust me it will save you a lot of aggravation.

I have to agree that you should look into having a finisher come in to do the sanding. They will be done in a quarter of the time and a better surface.

Good luck.

They are alright if you are not going to use it a lot, I don't know if I would go that route to put down that flooring. I have to agree with the bostich would hold up better.

Brin I have the 20% coupon(they em'd it to me), but I did a little snooping and there is a coupon floating around for $99:
2-in-1 Flooring Nailer/Stapler Coupon Code (exp. 6/3) - Harbor Freight #97586 - Flooring Nailer for $99.99

I won't pay for a coupon that HF has printed in some ad somewhere.....I just need to find it. Anyway, I am headed to HF tomorrow to pick it up. Thanks guys I will buy the Bostich staples, not the HF one's.

I shuttled all the flooring up the driveway on the tractor forks as I did not dare try and drive 8,000 lbs of semi bundled flooring pallets up a steep driveway on a 20' trailer. I staged the long stuff in the house and two shorter piece bundles on the porch. I actually backed the truck up the driveway with the 10 thru 12' stuff on it so I didn't have to handle it twice(off/on loading).

I worked on the railing the last couple of days.....I think y'all are gonna like it....pic's soon(forgot the camera...sorry;)).

Brandi, yep...I'll get the warranty. Randy, I'll us it, my neighbor will use it, then if it's still working, I'll loan it out. This will hopefully be my first and last hardwood floor install(fingers crossed)

Here is the railing update...after experimenting with the tenon maker, I found that it would be very time consuming and difficult to insert the balusters. So I decided to face screw them on the outside of the rails:

I picked up the nailer from HF, then 7,000 Bostich staples from HD. The stapler says it takes 5 1/2 gauge x 2" staples. HD only had 5 gauge, so I tried them.....they work fine.

I put down 30 weight felt paper(left over from the roof) then set up a string line 3" off the wall and set the first 3 rows with my Senco finish nailer since you can get the flooring gun that close to the wall:

This is a 2'x36' run:

I learned a few things. Whack the nailer hard to really close the line between the two planks. On banana's, start nailing at one end or the middle depending on which way the banana lays. When putting down used flooring...make sure there is a toungue and groove at each end...not one end cut off flush:mur: A tube of liquid nails is handy for those that have splintered grooves or tongues.

Now a question or two for the experts...I am going to march right across the whole house and won't hit the bathroom wall(at one end) for 21'. So, I am anticipating some runout...how do I deal with it? Or, am I stuck with it until I hit the opposite wall 30' away from my starting point?
