Looks great. I would say that the trailer welds cracked when the drawbar bent. You are going to be amazed that the ball held up when you see how its made

Nope, that was too much tongue weight...the rafters all hanging off the back of the trailer created to little tongue weight...especially going up the steep driveway.

Whatever the cause you should take the ball that is on the drawbar and relegate it to the scrap heap. The ball and cup on it are hollow. It allowed the mounting bolt to bend at almost a 45 degree angle to the mounting plate. I took the ball apart and straightened the bolt it but I wouldn't use it. To make it right you need a solid ball and a plate welded under the one that it mounts to now. Its a weak point. It wouldn't hurt to weld a gusset under the section that bent to strengthen it.

The house looks great. Its going to be a great day when its under roof.

Well...Brani...Ok, I'll go with you on the gooseneck. Every time I am at my tractor/trailer dealers I drool over the 30+' goosenecks...especially the one with the hydraulic bed that lowers with the push of a button(no ramps!).

For now my 20' beaver tail will have to do. A local guy built it using mobile home axles probably 20 years ago. I bought it from him back in 2001 or 2 for the grand sum of $800. I have used the snot out of it. It's on it's 3rd set of tires and I re-decked it once. It's a good thing I have a welder to fix it when parts fall off break from my abuse:confused3:

But....I ain't giving up my Chevy(s) or my Kioti...............ever:laughing:

M7, you probably mentioned it all ready but are you a carpenter by trade? I really love your appoach to diy. The saw mill is awesome and you obviously aren't intimidated by the project. Progress looks good.

Matt, good grief no. More like a Neanderthal Carpenter...maybe even Cro-magnon:laughing:. I am however the King of "Rustic" carpentry. To me a true carpenter is an artist with power tools, and a finish carpenter is the creme of the crop.

I can't explain this, but I can "see" in my head almost every aspect of the house. Except for a few scale drawings I scratched out(mostly for my wife so could see the layout) the rest is in my head. I am not ****, so I adjust things as needed and focus on the big functional things. I try not to make fatal mistakes(had a few close calls) and fix things when they go wrong, or don't turn out to my liking. Math is a nemesis for me, but practical application of measurements are not...go figure:confused:

I was very intimidated by the rafter cuts...didn't really sleep much the days before hanging them. The rest of the build not so much because I built a log house in TX when I was 26. I did that out of necessity...could not afford to buy a house(anybody remember 15% interest rates on home loans back then?) and hated living in an apt. However before that house the only thing I ever built in my life was a pair of floor speakers in HS. I winged it a lot back then, made lots of mistakes(that house was Southern Yellow pine...that is exactly why this one is Cedar) but learned and got it done.

After that , I started building fences and decks as a side job(Public Servant) for over 15 years. I'm retired now and always knew I would build another log house...not bigger, just better.

Oh, I was going with 2x6 decking for the roof, but got a good deal on 2x10 decking. I already have started on the East end and the big boards look really good from down under. Pic's to follow............

My friend built a stick built house with cathedral ceilings and used tounge and groove 1x6 on top of the exposed rafters, on top of that roof he built another roof and insulated above the 1x6 between the other roof rafters. Then he decked that roof and shingled it but it allowed him to put more insulation in there by having two roofs. From inside you see the one roof but from the outside you only see the upper roof. We built the loft and installed the log siding that was all cut from his land. The loft was supported by 4x10 rough sawn larch if I remember correctly, 24' long. They were not any fun to install but it looked great once done. Your home is going to look great once your done and I look forward to following this thread as you keep updating it.
