Ahhh than you must remember artists such as..Gentleman Jim Reeves {He have to go}Johnny Horton{North to Alaska&New Orleans&Whisper Pines}Tex Ritter& Roy Acoff{bet I misspelled his name /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif}etc..oh yester years. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
Those artists songs for some reason seem to stay w/one thru out the years.
Heck I been know to sing a couple of those tunes myself...ahh maybe thats why the cows always ran to the barn at night time...now that I think about my singing talents I'm cross between a coyote in heat and a Chinese auctioner, /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gifbut who doesn't sing a tune or two while on there tractor.
Yep today C/W missing some of that homeie counrty feelings,but ever now and than someone comes a long..John Denver{Country Roads}Sawyer Brown{I'll take the dirt roads} etc....

Hank Williams...what can one say about the man,for in the short time he was w/us he open more doors and touch people inner feelings..such as songs like Your Cheatin Heart&So Low Some I Could Cry etc...

Thomas, now you're starting to talk about the singers I liked best. I have a few Jim Reeves albums, and Johnny Horton's North to Alaska album, a few Marty Robbins albums, a few Sons of the Pioneers, a few Statler Brothers, and a bunch of others. But my favorite music is the old fashioned Southern Gospel male quartets (with good strong bass singers), like the Oak Ridge Boys (40 years ago), the Statesmen, Blackwoods, Cathedrals, Florida Boys, Stamps, etc.

And can John Ritter sing? Have never heard him try to sing; only act? Too bad he didn't inherit daddy's voice.

Oh do I hear that one alot from my co worker when the freshmen come to Dartmouth College,for you be surprise how many freshmen and travelers think Dartmoth College also the name of the town instead of Hanover,New Hampshire.

For the life of me I can't remember Tex Ritter band name,was it the Texas Playboys and didn't they pick another band name later on??

Can't say I heard of John Ritter sing before,but Gene the singing cowboy son who play Bubba on the Heat of the Night tv show wasn't have bad w/ a tune.

Has it been 40 years already /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif ole man where my...ahh Ted Mack Amateur Hour use to advertise that brown bottle about 40 years ago on Sunday night...and ain't to grow hair. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thats for sure about base singers,and most of the bass singer were little in height compare to six foot plus bass singers,sure could catch one attendion when they hit the low notes.

Hope the tilling going well..11 above and 30 to 40mph winds here and don't dare to look at the windchill....brrrr.

I'm not familiar with the country music being played these days. My Dad was a local country musican and singer back in the 50's and 60's, even into the 70's. He gave me my first name from Ernest Tubb, middle name from Eddie Arnold. Surprised He didn't slip a Hank in somewhere.
How can you people talk about J. Cash and guitar players without mentioning Luther. " Luther played the boogie in the strangest kind of way" It was luther who originated that beat you hear in "I walk the line" and other Cash songs of that period.

Hmm, I've seen them all sizes, but don't remember short ones outnumbering tall ones. J. D. Sumner, who died last year, used to sing with the Blackwoods, then the Stamps after Blackwood bought them, and was singing with Elvis when Elvis died, was well over 6' and as far as I know is still the Guiness Book of Records "lowest bass singer in the world." "Big John" Hall, who was bass for the Stamps Quartet 40+ years ago came by his nickname honestly, and "Big Chief" Weatherington, who was bass for the Statesmen was at least as tall as anyone in the quartet.

And I think you're right about Tex Ritter's band, but don't remember for sure.
