A comfortable shop, well lit, well heated, good concrete floor, refrigerator, music and an old Barber Chair to nap in.

Something to stop the bleeding when I injure myself.

Liquid bandage, I have cut myself a few times. Most often when filing a chansaw blade, the liquid bandages work real fast.

LOL, I have used electrical tape to stop the red stuff from staining wood projects.
Seriously though I keep a bottle of alcohol to disinfect dirty cuts B4 taping.
The real 'first aid' comes once the project is finished.

The most important thing to have is all the safety gear needed for hands, eyes, feet and ears. Sometimes you may even need a hard hat to keep the knots off your noggin. After that is my air compressor because I have so many air tools and of course the ever present 4.5" grinders. I just finished making a little stand that folds up and down and supports my landscape rake when I unhook it. I used all scrap pieces and ended up using a battery powered Drill, 1/2" drill bit to enlarge and existing hole for the pin that locks the drop bar in place, 4.5" grinder to smooth up some edges on scrap, bench grinder to buff off some paint, welding machine, (18" pipe wrench and 12" crescent, 6" vise and an anvil to straighten out a piece of scrap flat bar and then bend it to my required shape)4# shop hammer to beat stuff to fit, channel lock pliers to handle hot metal. All this for a 15 minute job.
Nothing like having the tools needed when you need them unlike yesterday when down in the pasture and behind 3 locked gates and almost 1/4 mile to get to my shop when needing to do some field repairs to a dirt drag and all we had was a pair of fencing pliers and a 6" pipe wrench to remove some 1/4" and 3/8" nuts. Got it done but still later ended up going to the shop anyhow for some more bolts and heavy wire.

The safety stuff is good, I figured it'd be a downer to discuss, so thanks. I ALWAYS wear eye protection, and almost always ear protection.

I'm 46, and I know I've lost some hearing, but I try to protect what I have.

LOL, I have used electrical tape to stop the red stuff from staining wood projects...me too, and duct tape. After the last time I had to go to the eye doctor to get hemlock shavings out of my eye, and then the week after that had sweat pull sawdust into my eye and my eye was all bloody I went and bought a full face msa resperator. I figured my co-pay was better spent going to something that would actually keep me from having to drive to the dr.

may not be too sanitary but in a pinch spider webs have an uncanny ability to stop bleeding...FWIW...

In my garage I have an old chest full of at least 2 of every thing I need. That is only when I need it I can't find it so end up buying 2 more. After finishing the project and put the extra one away for next time seems like I always find what I needed in the first place! Anyone else with that problem?

Exact same problem, magnified by the multiple boxes, cans, tins, drawers, organizers and buckets that I have developed, inherited, found, and in at least instance, purchased at a garage sale.

My best purchase was the bucket full of wrenches that I bought with the box of hardware- they included old hydrant wrenches dogbone wrenches and probably totaled about 50 wrenches in all.

Whenever I find an odd or really big nut or bolt I need to turn, I go to my bucket and chances are, the wrench I need is waiting there.

In fact, the wrenches I use to remove and replace our MM mower blades.

I have received my Dad's box of odds and ends then my neighbor moved and gave me his bucket of odds and ends and that is on top of my box of odds and ends. I am thinking they need to go to the recycler and I need to start over. Every time I get ready to make that move I have to fix something and the repair part is in one of those boxes. Maybe the next rainy day I will sort them out.........probably not.

My wife has talked me out of junking or recycling all the hardware and bits n pieces because of all the times that the unique part that will finish a new build or save buying (much less trying to find) the part to finish a repair. My inherited stuff is from my father in law and his father, because he moved from a home with garage to one without leaving me his dad's tools, hardware, and his own 38 years of collecting tools, hardware and parts.

I also salvaged tons of materials fom the dumpster at the hospital where I worked, when they renovated several of the surgical suites, delivery rooms, and apparently cleaned out several of their metal and electrical shops. Some of the stuff they dumpstered was just blatantly disgusting to see thrown out, so I just HAD to bring them home.

I worked at a big photo lab some years ago, and took home a bunch of stuff when they pitched it for upgrades. Most of it was Kodak equipment, and they didn't go cheap on anything. Got tons of bearings, switches, rollers and all kinds of other stuff. I've always enjoyed parting things out, get lots of useful odds and ends that way.
