I agree that pet stores inflate the price of popular dogs to a ridiculous degree. I have a pruebreed English Bulldog and our local pet store sells them for $2,800 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I bought mine from a local breeder for $1,200 and i got all the paperwork on BOTH the mother and father.
If you are looking for a ugly, lazy, snoring, farting dog, look no further, an English Bulldog is for you. It gives them a unique character. I still love her to death though !!!

This was a while back and things were more laid back then plus the cops were not interested. I figured that his bruised ego might be enough. I was more concerned with his dog with an owner like that. I asked the vet to let me know if he talked about euthanizing the dog but he did the right thing at that point. I don't know what he may have done with the dog later, possibly nothing good.

I have always liked the English Bull, I once knew a elderly couple next to the place I worked that owned a beautiful white & brown female. She got hit by a car one day and they came and got me to carry her to their car to take to the Vet.
She was way too heavey for those folks to pickup not to mention one destoyed rear leg.
She came home from the Vet after losing that leg, recoverd and still played ball.

We have a 6 year old Austrailan Shepard (AKC reg) and a 2 year old Border Collie (not reg). Both dogs have obediance training and both are agility dogs.
The aussie has over 20 agility titles and the Border collie has just started competing this year.

These dogs are just like kids to us, they live like royalty /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We buy our dog food at the pet store in town, they have good prices but they also sell expensive mill bred puppys.
People have no idea what they are getting for hundreds & thousands of dollars.
We seen people come there with ther kids to buy a puppy with no knowlage what soever of any breeds and how big they will get or what kind of exersize that dog will need when it grows up.
Its no wonder most will become throw away pets and end up in the shelters.

I do know that pets are a life time commitment and that euthanizing millions of cats & dogs every year is unacceptable.

Ours like to run laps in the great room which is always good for a laugh when one gets tangled up in a lamp cord while horsing around. Did I say that we've replaced more than one lamp in that particular area of the house? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Now you post this statement. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I keeping having the power to my notebook computer disconnected. I thought it was me forgetting to plug it back in. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Now I find out it could be our innocent little Shih Tzu doing her evening run. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif So far, ours has not broken anything in the house. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Just her leg, when she tripped the wife while playing.

Unfortunately I knew labs were at the top of the list. Like so many others I wish that wasn't true. It's too bad the AKC sees nothing but dollar signs as long as both parents have papers; this leads to too many labs with genetic problems.

I have a couple of "backyard breeders" living up the road from me, the pet control officers took all of their breeding stock 2 summers ago. They just went out and bought new dogs and started over. They seem to think that I'm the one who turned them in, and it's caused problems for me. I didn't or they would be SURE of that fact; but I DID advise the wrong person not to buy from them.

hunterridgefarm, I've heard that Jack Russell's are one of the smartest breeds. I've also heard that they can be quite a handful. I can't say yes or no to either stateent but I do know that the smarter the dog, the more problems it can be.
I guess they just get bored easier.

How many dogs did they have and were they keeping them in deplorable conditions ?? They must have been doing something terribly wrong to have their dogs confiscated.

Around 40 dogs were taken; mostly huskies and labs. This was on a half acre lot.
I don't remember the exact details, but they had several very sick dogs which weren't getting vet attention. To give you an idea of the conditions, the kids in the family infected the local school twice with lice... imagine how the dogs lived.

They acquired one nice looking, spirited, healthy black lab which they placed outside on a short chain. Over the course of the next several months I watched that dog's spirit die; I eventually started going several miles out of my way to get home so that I didn't have to see it. I actually considered making him "disappear", but I couldn't do anything like that without them knowing who did it and why it was done.

To be fair, the dogs were a large source of their income; and this is a very depressed area. But that doesn't make it right.

That description could fit three of our five dogs!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Oh, and none of them are English Bulldogs either!

I was disappointed to see that neither the Catahoola, nor the Black Mouth Kur were on the list! Both are great cow dogs, and if you especially like the farting, the Catahoola breed will give anyone a run for their money!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Our youngest, a 1/2 Catahoola and 1/2 Black Mouth Kur (pure bred enough for us) is a spoiled rotten little lady that sleeps with the wife and me, named Sierra. She owns the place, completely and we refer to it as "her kingdom"! Our other four, a pure bred Sheltie, a prue bred Shar Pei, a pure bred border collie and last but not least, a PURE BRED COUNTY ROAD drop off!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, tolerate her spoiled little majesty!
