( Do they still make an AGCO-Allis
No. The way I see it is that they are holding on to Allis through the AGCO brand tractor. (Allis Gleaner Co.) It has been propped up by other money ever since they started with that brand. Put the money where is will do the most good, not into starting another brand. One of the 21 or so brands under the AGCO umbrella has supplied the vast majority of the money to allow them to purchase nearly all of the other brands. )
Jerry,
I have been following the story of Allis Chalmers, Duetz Allis, and now Agco for quite a few years. I have read numerous books on them, talked with employees, dealers, and even tried to decifer there corporate financial report(with not much luck). I find it very difficult if not totally impossible to determine which Agco brand makes the most money, has the biggest margins, has the biggest capital liabilities/assests, is the most risky, etc...At Agco Corp. Headquaters I am 100% certain they have all of this type of information. It is not the type of factual financial information the is released to the general public.
I can't see how you have reached the conclusions that you have stated.
When you say that it has been "propped up by other money", where have you seen that info? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Gene,
If you have followed AGCO, then you will know that there was a time when they were just a spot in the road so to speak. There was a turning point. That turning point was when they made a very smart purchase using ever means that they had. After that purchase they have been an international company. Also, from that time forward they have actually had the money or the credit line to be able to make all the other acquisitions. Just as long as they don't pull a Conrad Black, I won't be to disturbed at them. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jerry, I was told that AGCO, at their annual dealer meeting this month, is going to announce their plans to reduce these 21 companys down to 3, AGCO, Massey Ferguson, and Challenger. My first question was what about Hesston? It was their thought that name would go away also. This came from two AGCO/MF dealers, and one Challenger Dealer. Agco is going through alot of dealship restructuring

Locally, Oliver was an extremely strong franchise. That continues today, with the White dealerships still around. Used to be able to count the Massey dealers on one hand, but I attened 3 of their going out of business sales a decade ago, think there is one Massey dealer left about 100 miles from me.

Lots of Ollie & White tractors, lots of Gleaner combines. A few Allis tractors.

That is what is local 'here'.

It is foolish for Agco to contine the many different overlapping tractor brands in the current climate. You can call it Massey, White, or Agco - who cares. It's how it works, not what color it is.

If brand loyalty is an issue, then calling them 'Massey' would actually hurt them - locally.

The combines better have 'Gleaner' in the name, or they are done tho. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We sure have taken this thrad all over the place. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Everyone knows that the Duetz is the most popular, I'm from tennesse and know that.

I believe this depends on how the tractor is used. Ag tractors are different than industrial machines. When it comes to construction, tractors are used and configured a little differently. When it comes to running hard and putting away wet, I think the Ford would be on top. In 45 years my Ford 4000 only disappointed me one time.

Clearly the most popular tractor in the world is not the one you have now, but the "next tractor".....
