Dugster, I had to throw that in there, I couldn't resist. When it comes to pressure gauges, accuracy = $$$. The aircraft gauges I posted earlier is probably the best of the best (it better be for that price). Here's another one for you. 0-100 PSI, +/- 2% accuracy, check and fill two tires at once.

Well, I'd done that and I've just had it up to here with inaccurate Chinese krap.

Sometimes in life, on some small things, you want and can afford to buy the very best.

This is one of those times for me.

You don't really care about static pressure, you care about dynamic pressure. Also, about the rate of change. Can't monitor that with a push on gage, can you?

As you may know, my Vette has those "in the tire" pressure monitoring sensors and they are a royal pain in the behind when they stop working correctly... but you are right. For absolute maximum running safety, this would definitely be the way to go. You pick-up a nail in one tire... you know it quickly!

Looks like the ones from the Autosport website look the best so far.

I would recommend a dial or digital gauge - the pencil types just don't cut it for accuracy and longevity. A little bit of moisture and all bets are off. however, they are prolly pretty repeatable.

Funny - I just got new tires put on and asked for 65F and 75R - got home to check them and had 65F, 75LR, and 85RR - and that was from the tire shop.....human error I guess - couldn't tell on the road, but glad I checked anyway. And that was after a couple hours - and after washing them - no sun....BTW - the gauge I use is the hose off an old air tank - that clips to the tire - attached to an engine compression gauge via quick disconnect.

0 - 300psi at 5psi increments. I had key chain gauges in all the trucks for trailers, etc - but actually found some to be 5psi off....the were the CH ones from Walmart....but at least they would let you know if your 80 psi horse trailer tires were at 20, 40, 60, or close to 80 - which is way better then the old tire management system...(Load them up and look at the sidewalls....)

The problem is, I've found that even buying the best I can find, with time, they can become inaccurate. The ONLY way I've found to control that is to simply use two guages and check them against each other. On the drag bikes we run, we need accuracy within .1 lb, so we just keep three guages and double check them all the time. Seems like about once every 3-4 months one goes in the dumpster and we pick up another. Had good luck with Moroso over the years.

It may also just be annecdotal, but we've consistently found digital guages to be less accurate over time then dial guages. No idea why...just karma I guess.

Well I have an "ACCU-GAGE" that I carry with me all the time plus I have a couple in my tool box. The gauge you get depends on what pressure you intend on measuring, that is why I have a couple different ones. Here is a quote concerning their gages "The mechanical accuracy rating is ± 2% from 25% to 75% of scale and ± 3% below 25% and above 75%".

They are made in the USA by G.H. Meiser & Co and they warranty their gages. We all know that just because it states "made in USA" doesn't mean 100% of it, I suspect components are being imported and assembled here.

They may not be the best but I have had a 0 - 160psi gage for many years that I use on bicycle tires that require 100 - 110psi. Then I have another for my ATV tires for the low pressures around 4 - 6psi. And yet another for my truck tires.

For many years I used a gauge supplied by longacre, this is used for stock car racing, last time I looked it was US made not China, there is also intercomp, all available on line

I have a Bridgeport model 403A gauge, it reads 10-130 lb in 2 lb increments, Made in USA by Bridgeport Brass Co. Bridgeport Conn. and looks similar to the Milton. I've had this gauge over 30 years but don't remember where I bought it.
I tried doing a search to find if it is still produced and sold but find Bridgeport Brass Co formerly of Conn. is now making antique lighting and accessories. It's getting harder and harder to find anything made in the USA.
