I've always had a soft spot for the old Willys and CJs and I think the Rescue looks pretty good /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I couldn't help but think that this new Jeep looks like it might be built on a Dodge 3/4 ton pickup frame. If we knew the "price" of the Jeep, we could calculate the cost of outfitting a club cab Dodge Cummins Diesel 4x4 pickup with similar options. That would tell what the Jeep factor will be in the pricing. It does look like Jeep is considering trying to capture some of the current Hummer market. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The TurboDieselRegister says it is just that, built on the Dodge 2500 platform.

Re: The New Jeep \"Rescue\" SUV. Check it out...

The Turbo Diesel Registry lists describes it as built on the Ram-2500 platform, with coil front suspension, Cummins diesel, ect.
As a recue vehicle, with 10kw generator capability, front/rear winches, safety gear, rescue gear, ect, it makes sense to run a beefier vehicle. Having grown up in Jeep's from CJ2a'-CJ7's, they are a light duty vehicle.. Even the guys running Toyota's on the trails still have a light duty vehicle. The first thing most people do to trail rigs is beef them up for bigger tires, lower gears, winches ect ect ect. Why not use a 3/4 ton chassis to begin with?

Having run the tight trails though, that 3/4 ton width chassis will be an issue. I have been lots of places where a stock width Jeep barely fit through, much less ones with really wide tires or now popular wide axle setup. It is amazing the differenc ein manueverablility between a Jeep or Landcruiser compared to a short bed Toy pickup.

There was some talk a while back on the TDR site if I remember right, about Dodge possibly releasing a pickup for the military that ran diesel electric hybrid. They could run in "stealth mode" using battery instead of a noisy engine. It could also be used to generate electricity. One market item mentioned was the ability to have a generator on construction sites and the like. My contractor buddy carries a generator pretty often to his sites. Why not have a 10kw generator built in to the truck!

Old Hickory, cool pictures. Thanks for the links. We bought our first and only jeep in 1999, and started getting a jeep magazine. I remember seeing a picture in there about people using them on the farm...but I didn't realize they actually had a 3 point hitch and pto. The jeep is my wife's car, and I usually drive the old hand me downs...like after they ar 15 yrs old and have 200K miles, etc. When we bought the jeep , I remember thinking, now what would I like to be driving 15 yrs down the road as a hand me down? Being tractorless then, I also thought there were some things I could use it for....haha. Wonder If I could interest her in a Cummins diesel jeep....let's see, 15-20 yrs from 2004...that would be er 2020 or 2025, and that baby would be mine to drive.

sassafraspete

new tractor , but driving old clunkers on the road. Getting my priorities straight.

I like it. My wife's Liberty, after some initial teething problems has settled into being a reliable and trouble free car. It has the full time 4WD and part time 4WD and 2WD. The ABS works increadibly well on ice as does the entire car. It is not as roomy as an Exploerer so I do not recommend it for very large people but ordinary folks wanting a very capable midsize SUV it is a good choice. Yes, it is midsize, longer, longer wheelbase, wider, heavier, more horsepower than the Cherokee it replaces with better approach angles front and rear. When you get underneath it and look around you see all kinds of "Jeep" features like cast iron arms up front.
That Rescue is just a concept but one I would like to see go into production just as it is. J
