Just the title of this thread cracks me up! Yes, we all state that JD and Kubota cost double the price (Sarcasm). I have a JD sitting in our Barn... Incredible tractor, I also have a Case IH (Engine built by Shibaura) superior engines. I have owned a Kubota, superior tractor (B7800). I now drive a Yanmar which builds most of JD's compact engines (common knowledge).

So is there a question in this thread or is it just to let everyone who doesn't own a Kubota or JD know that they chose wrong? I know of a great many REAL farmers who have made great livings driving/owning other than JD/Kubota.

There are a lot of good companies making tractors now, I'm not smart enough to tell you which of them are building better tractors than JD or Kubota. I know I would gladly own and operate a lot of tractors that are not my first/second choice. There are a ton of great tractor makers out there. I think yall JD/Kubota zealots need to get a grip. You have some competition, this is a good thing.

I didn't bother to read all of the posts in this thread, nor do I plan to. But really, anyone on this post who acts like JD/Kubota are the only tractor to own, shame on you. I have a few farmers who bought Case IH and Massey who are pretty dang successful and not just moving a little firewood around.

There are a lot of CNH and their predecessors' tractors around. CNH tractors are no less expensive than Deeres or Kubotas. I am not aware of anybody that wouldn't consider CNH to be one of the major tractor manufacturers.

The makers that have less expensive units rarely offer anything larger than a small utility tractor and basically just sell compacts to homeowners. Engines sometimes get outsourced in ag tractors but the tractors themselves rarely do unless it's AGCO, which is probably why Kubota has replaced AGCO as the #3 player for full-sized utility tractors behind Deere and CNH. Kubota does outsource the M8 large utility tractor to Russian-owned Versatile, that's the one current notable exception with a major maker outsourcing entire ag tractors.

I don't even know how farmers even came into the conversation about deere, kubota, tym, branson and LS sized tractor choices. All farmers here use big deere, case, Massey or new Holland machines.

Now we just need used prices for each at 5 yrs old, 1,000 hrs.
Who cares about used prices , most guys dont buy a tractor to sell in 3 or 4 yrs like a car, In 2002 i bought my cub cadet 7260 for 12,500 i sold it this past yr for 8500, Pretty good for a twenty yr old tractor, Used tractors are very hard to find no matter what color which means people tend to keep them

Yes and no?

Tym, yanmar, Mitsubishi and ls build for all the big brands other than kubota?

New Holland's are built by LS

Mahindra sells mitsubishi, tym and mahindra

JD uses a lot of yanmar engines at a minimum
You might have jumped the apple orange fence. Not sure though. Sometimes it's confusing. :)

Seems like, from the title of this thread, you exaggerate for effect a lot. I'm going to spend my time reading something from tractors owners who actually know what they are talking about!
Having not read the entire thread, how are you going to know who those are???

Well,,,,, let's see,,,,, you who doesn't care about used prices just quoted a used price you received for a tractor you sold. Even commenting how you got a pretty good price for a twenty yr old tractor. So it matters. I wonder what the sell price factor would have been on a grey market tractor?

I had to look up TYM as apart from a rare mention on this forum, I had never heard of them. I had never seen one for sale in this region on any dealer lot, any of the big equipment classified websites, or even at farm sales or consigment sales. The company has only been selling tractors in the U.S. for about 20 years and there are only seven dealers in my entire state. The nearest of them is a tiny dealer an hour and a half away. That does not inspire confidence that the manufacturer will continue to stick around in the U.S. so that if in 10 years if you need a part, you can get it.

Here's an example. A previous neighbor of mine bought a new Montana tractor in the mid-2000s and and said how he got a great deal on it. Montana was made by a division of LG. They sold poorly and LG pulled the plug. My neighbor later needed a MFWD axle part (I think it was a seal) and since LG stopped having anything to do with Montana tractors, he couldn't get it. He ended up selling it at a consignment auction for pennies on the dollar.

The biggest competitor to the less-expensive second-tier tractors is used tractors from the major manufacturers. You can buy a fairly lightly used 4 series Deere or Kubota Grand L for what you can buy a new TYM for and not worry about whether or not your tractor will be orphaned.

I guess if it takes you an hour to clean the loader zerks, that would be why you only grease them once per year.
My neighbor has a Montana tractor. It seems to be a pretty decent machine and he has used the heck out of it. But he told me that he’s concerned that when it goes down, finding parts might be a problem.

anyone on this post who acts like JD/Kubota are the only tractor to own,

Don't read anyone saying they are the only tractor to own... but saying the only tractor that they would/do own.

Don't read in this thread that any of the JD or Kubota owners are getting their undies in a bundle. To each their own to like what they like. No need to be jealous of what others' like to own, or wish to own.

Right, just be happy with the fact that you have the disposal income to pay more money for an equal product.

Even if I had that kind of money, my wife is a retired Controller with an MBA. She worked in manufacturing for many years. No way I could baffle her with BS to spend 50% more because they are nearby, or because my friends are familiar with the brand.

You see, it is not that Kubota and JD are more expensive, it is the fact that they are so far out of 'true'. Heck, the JD and Kubota fan boys help keep prices down on other brands.

I remember a time when Americans thought Toyota and Hyundai were not major brands.
