Does anyone who now owns John Deere ever compared tractor to tractor, green to blue or green to red and actually listed the components and accessories offered for the money? I am the owner of a 4300HST and almost immediately upon the tractor arriving at the house, neighbors and the like came over to naturally inspect and just be nosy. Of course, I live in John Deere country where GREEN is seen in EVERY field doing all sorts of things and NOONE dares to drive elsewise! I as the owner, have taken the time to inspect the competition and after doing so, have been disappointed with the results! When I finally did build the confidence to drive onto the BLUE dealers lot and inspect item for item........the GREEN list of standard items dwindled to next to nothing! EVERYTHING in GREEN is an option and sold for an additional price, whereas the BLUE offers many more standard items for the same price. Is everyone out there just blind or is the power of owning GREEN so overwhelming, they just don't see where they are going or what they are doing! Not this camper, next time it will be BLUE all the way!!!

You can 'find' whatever you are looking for, be it green or blue or orange or whatever. Same with a Ford, a Chevy or a Dodge.

Enjoy what you have, but..........

My 4300 is green and I HAVE driven blue.........I will stick to green and not castigate the blue....... just the way I am /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Most 'envy' what I have, and I don't think my green are any more expensive than what they have, just better. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just recently made the color choice for the first time. I could really care less about the color, I am a "city boy" who has never owned a tractor other than a 1973 Simplicity 4041, and the closest tractor in my life is my uncle's and it is orange.

I bought the 3320. After it was all said and done I just liked the way I sat on the 3320 more than the others. I wanted JD eHydro - not anyone elses - I liked the pedals. I wanted R4s and a MMM in the size of the 3320 - the GrandL does not have that. I liked my dealer at JD. I love the joystick placement of the JD. I found the tractor I wanted at JD.

Price was not really the deciding factor. When you spend $20K+ for something $1K more really does not change anything for me.

Maybe someday I will find a blue or red that I like more but for now the tractor I choose was green because that had the features I wanted and the ergonomics I decided I liked it best.

An orange dealer just about sucked me in for a bit less $. And then I said to myself why am I not getting the tractor that I really want. Switched to green without hesitation.

Now I am a new owner so my opinion is not worth much.

I say get what you want and let the tractor designers choose the color. They all cost very close to the same. If you cannot afford a couple options wait a few weeks and it will not be an issue. If you cannot afford what you want, use what you have until you can. Don't let price be the #1 factor.

Your opinion is worth the same amount anyone else's opinion is worth. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif And you did the right thing; got the one that suited you best.

I think thatts the key. Get what you want and believe in. I had a questionable experiecne with JD quality, customer service eventually stepped up though. So, for that, when I need another I wont rule them out. I will however look at them all, not just green, this way I can see what truely fits my needs.

Very well put. A good tractor that fits has the potential to a loooong term asset effectively negating a slightly higher initial price.

I know many dealers are facing the same dilemma as you noted. John Deere, as it becomes even more global corporate, changes models for frequently that features and options seem to get recycled. I do not, however, feel that John Deere is fading--they still make top notch machines. The reality is that the competition is gaining, and in some lines, perhaps equivalent to John Deere. I think as a layman, it would be tough to maintain model superiority in all lines. For years JD has concentrated on larger machines, and although the compacts are good, they had to share with NH, Kubota and others for market share. Kubota has done mainly compacts forever, and they know how. John Deere, as big as it is, is still "learning" about this market share, which is growing faster than is the pure agriculture share. I personally believe JD would benefit from cutting back on models and retaining certain models without coming out with new models every two-three years. This would afford them improvements, and make those options easier to spec as standard. I support John Deere as I think they still make the best overall machine for my needs, and my dealer is great and a good personal friend. But, in 2005, it pays to shop as the differences are not what they used to be, and likely never will become that again.

In my search I looked at JD, MF, Case/IH, NH, and Cub Cadet. Comparing apples to apples they were all fairly equal in price. But a second JD dealer (a real good place conveniently located on my routine travel route) was substantially cheaper -- actually over a thousand cheaper than the other JD dealer and the dealers of the other brands. Given that the 4110 is being replaced (I think) they may have wanted to clear inventory, but they even went so far as to swap tires and wheels with a dealer in South Carolina just so I could have R1's. And they delivered at no charge even though out of their 30-mile free delivery radius. So I think it may come down to the dealer to some extent -- I think other posts in here bear this out. I would have been just as happy with the MF or NH but this deal was a winner.

I think a previous poster hit the nail on the head the competition is just getting better.

Bottom line however you and you alone need to be happy with your purchase whatever color that may be, if it does what you desire and gives you that good pride of ownership feeling I don't think you can go wrong with any repuable tractor. I also agree stongly with another poster, the dealer can make all the difference in the world. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
