Actually, no sore spot, no sensitivity.
We also grew up butt deep in at least 5 brands of tractors (um, that would be the good brands /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) over the years; and slowly, but surely through the years as problems with the various makes come and go, and the dealers come and go, or change brands just to stay in business, or get comsumed by a conglomerate. Green keeps bouncing back and the company is stable and they stay in the field, year after year. Over those years, with the family farming and ranching, eventually all the repeat purchases end up being green. Not to mention, the relationship you build with your dealer through the years with those repeat purchases.
BTW, loyalty works both ways.
True, you can find decent, unique features on any brand of equipment. If they didn't, they would not be in business long. And, I like all brands of equipment, some just shine better than others.
To each his own.

Hi a sore spot? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think you need to carefully reaad the responses and what they were saying. If anything, I think you may have intended or hoped to stir something up which didn't happen, and sorry if you were disappointed. Be happy with what you have, or trade for what you want. Then we all be happy. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As many have said, get what you want or you will never be happy with your tractor. You will always be picking out the little things that should be better and won't ever really enjoy your purchase. And these cost way to much not to enjoy.

I went by that philosophy when I bought mine and I have no regrets.

I have an old friend that manages a Orange dealer and I bet he could have gotten me a real good price, but I've got enough experience with Orange through friends that own them that when I tested a Green I knew that's what I wanted. Now I have a NEW friend that manages a Green dealer! Another friend an I went in and bought tractors at the same time and we were able to get VERY good pricing, so no buyers remorse related to price here either.

If I went another way I knew everytime I say a beautiful Green machine in somebody's yard or being trailered down the road, I would be jealous- because that's what I really wanted. And that's what I got /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I compared the John Deere a and Kubota and I really liked the ergonimics of the JD more. Something I like even more is the dealer. The dealer from sales, service, parts, etc - top notch. I believe all the tractors (except maybe the cheapo chinese ones) are pretty good. The entire package is what matters to me. The online support from JD is impressive. The integration of their sales, online manuals, the equipment tracker, etc - pretty slick. If the Kubota dealership was more professional and better at selling, I might be driving orange. Of course a number of my buddies think I am crazy for not buying blue. They did just open a New Holland dealership next to the Kubota place...

D.

Boy, did I ever hit a sore spot! Didn't realize how sensitive an issue this is for the majority of Deere owners. As I have already explained, I AM an owner of a John Deere,

Hmmm...

I wonder of what flavor the responses would have been had you had posted in the Kubota/New Holland/Kyoti/Mahindra forums as a Kubota/New Holland/Kioti/Mahindra owner stating that you were dissapointed in Kubota/New Holland/Kioti/Mahindra new product tactics? I'm guessing a few Kubota/New Holland/Kyoti/Mahindra owners would have both agreed and disagreed with you. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

OK, one more point.

Let's say you bought a brand new 4020 back in 1973 or so. You've kept it in a barn all of its life but used it maybe 5000 hours. It's still worth what you paid for it.

So, you tell us, What is the PRICE to Own GREEN???

The REAL PRICE is partly determined by resale value. I say it is far better to be kicking a few lower arms than to be kicking yourself in the ***.

good point, though you'd be hard pressed to find an 8n for less than $2000 nowadays. Not sure what they sold for new, but I'd bet it wasnt that much. My point is that in tractors, as well as some other things, they dont make them to hold up like they used to. I think reputation carries some farther than quality.

You know a nice thing about John Deere is that they will always be around and parts seems to be easily obtainable. In fact my dealer has been in business for over 50 years.

Stability is nice when you own an older tractor like mine. Not that NH and Kubota arent stable, but I imagine its harder to find parts.

I think NH would be more stable if Fiat could somehow get out of the picture. Fiat's bleeding $$s right now. I would be aweful if it took down a bunch of product groups with it.

The price to own any of the top, whether it's a rolex watch or a mercedes car, is going to be higher. It's the little things that matter. And that's what the layperson doesn't see in the quality differences. For most of us we can look at a fake rolex and a real rolex and think they're the same watch. But to a person that knows watches it's a night and day difference. The quality is still there in Deere. You aren't just paying for a name.
