I also kept the ford 5000. I have a jd709 cutter to do my heavy cutting and a land pride 8ft blade. The B3030 if for finnish mowing, trail maintaining and fel work.

Good I was one that recommended the 'nota as a perfect complement to your Ford. On that size property you'd have wanted a nice green 4000Twenty at LEAST if you were gonna lose the ford. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Glad you are happy with your 'bota!

I've heard more than one person say that Kubota parts become harder to find once the machine is over ten years old. Would a JD dealer have a gear, axle, or engine part for a 20yr old machine?

In '89 I broke the front axle housing (casting) on my '58 2cyl Deere 420, and Deere had one in parts. In '95 the engine block and head were both replaced along with a complete engine overhaul, and all parts were available in Deere parts inventory.

In '91 I rebuilt a '59 Deere 420 crawler, having to do extensive part replacement to the clutch, brakes, and driving gears, as well as a couple gears in the transmission (a previous owner didn't believe in putting snap rings on to hold gears in place, and thought it cute to weld the gears onto the shafts /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ), and all parts needed were available from Deere. Just my experience with Deere in the tractor arena.

In the lawn tractor arena, I replaced grill, hood, wheels, and transmission gears on a '69 110 lawn tractor with new parts from Deere in '2001. I'm pleased. Not like boat motor parts, that stick around for about 10 years in inventory.

Ronster,

I had a 35 yr. old IH and the Case dealer could still get parts for it. Would not worry about parts for the JD.

froggy.

That's good to know the parts will be available for a long time. I'm glad I waited to see the new JD models before I bought a Kubota.

My Dad beef farms 460 acres with a 30 hp 1959 430, a 75 hp 1988 2950, and 90hp 1981 4040, all John Deeres. Parts are readily available for all of them, even the 430. He replaced the fuel injectors in the 4040 last month at the 8000 hr mark. In the spring he replaced the points, condenser, and muffler on the 430. All parts came from the JD dealer.

Well I broke down and bought a new Deere for similar reasons as others have. I like the layout of controls. I like that at the very least, it is an American based company. Most importantly, I'm still relatively young and if I need a part for it in 30 years, chances are I can drive up to a building with a John Deere sign in front of it and order the part. That's why I traded in my shortly owned used Deutz Allis 5220 on a new JD3320. Why? Because after getting swallowed up, Deutz parts are getting expensive and rare. Maybe not critical yet, but in 10 years a small breakdown could become unfixable. I always liked Fords, but they're gone. Who's to say New Holland will be here in a decade. I figure John Deere survived all the mergers over the years, so that was my best bet for stability. So, I paid the premium price, with the 3 year 0% instead of the 4 year 0% at New Holland.

Your story sounds like most of us. By the time we decide to spend $13-$30 thousand on a machine, all of the factors start to weigh on one brand's side or another, not the least of which is the future relationship one would expect for a purchase that big. I sometimes find myself wondering why the CUT sales and service business model isn't more like the automobile sales and service business model, and visa versa. I think the best dealers out there operate with the best from both of the sales and service business models in mind. Car dealers tend to be a little more competition oriented with pricing and a little weak on the continued relationship after the sale. Some tractor dealers are the opposite and feel the service after the sale warrants MSRP no matter what the other competing dealers are up to with their pricing. Every buyer thinks differently, but I have always been able to justify a slightly higher price when a better long term relationship seems to be part of the deal. Price has its limits, though. So far, so good. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
