quite a guy, my father. he's a combat veteran of world war 2 (b-25 tail gunner in the pacific, flying against truk, the japanese home islands, and all points in between) and korea (f-86 fighter pilot) and a retired career air force officer with 30 years of service. if i've grown up to be half the man he has proven himself to be, i am well content

Wow! When heroes like your father walk into a room everybody should be required by law to stand up out of respect....just sayin'.

Man. I'm fencing and taking pictures but I'll have to Photoshop them to look as good as yours.

I stood up and saluted at the picture.

Ahhhhhh retirement. That is a word dear to me. The key to a good retirement is having a good retirement plan. I started my retirement planning, by accident, a bit late in my career. I did manage to come up with a decent plan. My goal, as with most, was to be debt free. In 1990 I retired from employment at the age of 47. I have not worked for anyone since. It will be 23 years of retirement this June. I purchased 65 acres in East Texas and managed to pay that off in about 7-8 years. With some retirement money I purchased an airplane, hanger and other airplane stuff. Everything is paid for. I use credit cards to my advantage. I get a rebate on all purchases and I pay the account off monthly so I do not pay any interest. I do, most, all my home, vehicle, airplane and equipment maintence. That really helps a lot. Now this year I will pass my 70 1/2 years of age and I have to take the required minimum distribution from my last retirement savings plan. Life has been good. Bored???? Not on your life. I always have things to do. I am starting a 20x20' shed next week.

ET, that sounds almost like I wrote it, except I am 73 and rent a hangar, the shed I am building is going to end up at 50x56, and I am in south TX.
I built my house (myself) in the early 70's paying cash for building materials and havent made a house payment since. we paid cash for our current house on the lake, are debt free and enjoy life and reasonably good health.
Life is good.

still chipping away at the northern fence. i got 11 t posts driven today and a single strand of wire up. once this section is complete, i have another small section to do to complete my half mile of fence.

about half way down the hill, looking west (which is down)

in order to keep the barbed wire strands roughly the same height off the ground, i've sometimes had to ignore regular t post spacing and pound t posts in where the terrain changes.

this seems to work reasonably well. i guess i'll find out when the livestock shows up.

Where my ground takes a dip I just insert a longer t-post and try to keep the top wire at the same height as the others. I add an extra wire or three at the bottom for what ever distance needed in the dip to keep the cattle in.

Nice views!

Dhgood, I do the same as you when I have drastic terrain changes - forego the normal spacing. If there's a narrow dip in the ground, I'll put at post in it, same for small hills. If the dip is wider or looks like it might get high water flow, I'll put in two posts on the edges of the deepest part. Never had any problems with this method.
