spring is starting to be in the air in these parts, and so an elderly guy's fancy turns to.... tractor implements?

in my case, that is what has happened. i also bought a post hole digger, but i don't seem to have any pictures of it.

so, over the last two days, i've purchased, transported, and assembled both implements. i dug my first tractor-powered post hole yesterday and boy do i suck at it. i'm going to have to practice a little before i try again with serious intent. today i used the broadcast spreader to add additional seed to about 10 acres or so using 175 pounds of dryland pasture seed seasoned with a little sandhills sanfoin.

kinda dry around here, we could use some rain.

I am buying my post hole digger in May. while I will look around in the Attachments forum for tips do you have any lessons learned on using one? Thanks

post holes are easy. just remember to keep raising and lowering the thing as you dig so as not to screw it into the ground with no hope of getting it out without the use of a pipe wrench.

BOY is it dry looking out there. my pastures are actually starting to green up right now.....but were getting good rainfall.

one attribute of this property that i don't like is cactus. lots of cactus. endless cactus. my wife and i will (literally) be battling this stuff until the day we die. this is my wife's output from today:

At least the cactus is native and belongs there. I'll swap you some buckthorn and giant cow parsnip and throw in a few ash borers real cheap. Will a close mowing now and then prune back the cactus easier then hand digging? I seem to recall that in N.D. the place that always had cactus was inside the legs of the windmill where the lawn mower couldn't go.

You need to save some for when they get some rain - shave the prickly parts and grill them:)

Nice place you have going
