The Tallest Dead Tree That I Have Pushed Over. 40'

Happened to me again last week. Pushed over a dead tree against better judgment and a large branch broke off and crashed onto the roof of my loader. No apparent damage but I felt abusive to the machine, on account of shear laziness. I had a lot of ground to cover in little time, especially with the short days.

I guess the TH has the advantage of distance. When my wheel loader is raised, the load is pretty darn close up above.

Nicely done. That sure is the perfect machine for a lot of things around the land. How many HP is it? Do you use the wheels to push them over or by extending the boom?

Thanks. It has a 75 HP 4 cylinder Kubota diesel.

Just extend the boom. After the the first push I got out to take the picture, from then on, with it idling, I stood outside, reached in and pushed extend on the joystick.

Pushing it over breaks the roots on one side, so I pulled it up and took it to the burn pile.

Notice it was balanced, so I didn't clamp it with the single lid. :D

Does it have a park gear or extremely powerful brakes? -- Theres no way my mahindra 7520 would hold position. The wheels would roll.

Anytime that it is in neutral the brakes are on. If in forward or reverse and the engine is idling, the brakes are on. If it isn't running the brakes are on, they are spring loaded and released with hydraulic pressure.

If it slides back when extending the boom, I put it in low range, forward and add the pulling power to the pushing power.

Due to all of the concerns about tree tops breaking off when being pushed over, I decided to update this thread.

I think the reason it doesn't happen with my machine is because there is no sudden movement from the impact of hitting it with the loader bucket or grapple on a tractor, like some YouTube videos I've seen.

I just put whatever attachment that I am using, against the trunk and slowly extend the boom.

Here is a live tree that needed to come out. Used the stump bucket on it:

I pushed a dead spruce over yesterday. It had been leaning against the other spruces 20' over. About 7-8 inches. I had the bucket 3/4 of as far as it would go and pushed. The trunk snapped clean 4' off the ground and the tree was still held up, but balanced on my bucket. I backed up with the tree following me (leaning toward me). I backed up far enough and it slid to the ground still hung up. Then I pushed it over again and off to the side.

I did my road in the back woods - cleared the blow downs. I use a couple of standing trees as pivot points and snap the trunks into smaller pieces. If I can, I just shove them in a straight line deeper into the side of the woods. My neighbor had his wood cut and so I get more blow downs - spruce, poplar, birch, red maple.
