Another not efor you guys coming from the northeast. It was a very easy drive down to Tazwell on 81. You can motor along with the truck traffic with nobody bothering you. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Jim,
I have referred to your trip pictures many times when making the decision to buy. I ended up buying a 2422. I am replying to this post in order to bring it to the top (again) so someone can compare the size of a PT425 vs a PT1430.
Again, thank you for the series "Trip to Tazwell" I'm sure it has helped many, many people make a good decision. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Welcome to the family Bill! I'm glad that the thread was helpful for you. I know that you are going to really enjoy your PT. It is a great machine that does some amazing things for it's size! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just saw your great post on your trip to PT. Your experience was the same as my. Scott is still there and was most helpful. The new fabrication building is up and looks good.

The 425 looks to me to be the best bang for the buck and I am working thru the 20 deg limitation issue - I saw your post about mowing on a slope. I will talk to Scott about my concerns and believe I will end up with the 425

I agree 100%. I have not regretted buying my 425 and I mow on some steeper slopes around my place. With the exception of the floors in my house, there's not a level spot on my property. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Many of us agree that the 425 is the "sweet spot" of the PT lineup. The $6000 price difference between a 425 and 1430 will buy a lot of attachments and gasoline -- even at today's prices.

A gas engine, well maintained, should be good for between 1,000 - 2,000 hours, and can be completely replaced for about $1500 in today's dollars. My brother just replaced the 25HP Kohler Command on his Woodmizer sawmill -- at 2834 hours of almost completely full-throttle usage. The longevity of the engine for a homeowner is really not that big of an issue for homeowner use, IMO...
