I think the main concern with the 400 series is not if it will do the slope, but starving the engine of oil on prolonged slope usage. If I were going to ignore the manufacturer's warning's I would definately switch to synthetic oil for a little reassurance. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I would also put a light on the existing oil pressure switch. Although this seems inadequate. To spend $10,000 on a machine and use it well outside of the specs seems risky. Designed for 20 degrees and used at 30 degrees. For only 4 engines over the life of the machine you can get the right machine for the job. Has anybody used the machine on 30 degree slopes for extended periods?

The steepest slope that I have is in the back of my yard. It is about 70 feet wide and 30 feet down the slope. The grade varies from 18-25 degrees. I only mow it every 4th time I mow my yard as the grass on the hill is thin and slow growing.

I go up the slope on a less steep side and mow directly down. THis way I am only on the steepest slope for about 10-15 seconds and then on somewhat level ground again. I would not attempt mowing it side to side. My little tush is too puckered for that. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
