I'm just as p.o.'d as Bird about them Dallas cops using marijuana

Oops, did I word something poorly again? I didn't mean the cops were using marijuana; just that I had never even seen any until I became a cop, and started seeing it when we arrested people with it. And even then, we didn't see much of it 'cause at that time, getting caught with any amount of marijuana could get you 15 years in prison in Texas.

The reality of Cowboydoc's contribution has much to do with WHERE you lived.

These generalizations where certainly true in the south and I bet there were true in the midwest. Medium and small cities as well as the country.

I was raised in Atlanta. We didn't lock the doors in the 50s. Couldn't do that now.

Of course there were divorces, social inequities etc. but on the whole, things have changed and for the worst. One tatic the left uses, is to put down old fashion values, our former leaders and play up the negative aspects of the past. They are very selective as they must be but they never give up. Today schools in New Oleans, New York City are taking portraits of our founding fathers off the walls and renaming schools and government buildings. Why because they were slave holders. Never mind Jefferson tried to call for the abolishment of slavery in the Declaration of Independence. He and Washington freed their slaves in the wills. This is not acceptable and we must fight for our heritage.

Remember, if the next generation has no understanding of our past, its heros and its values, it is much easier to amend history. If a population does not understand its liberties and how they were adchieved them, they will be lost. I firmly believe this is the long range goal of the left.

Those first 10 admendments to our constitution sure get in the way and it would be very convienient if they could be done away with- in fact some on the extreme left would like nothing better than have a new constitutional convention.

True, but the extremes on both ends must be watched by the rest of us in the vast middle who don't usually pay enough attention. Right now, for instance, it might be easy to believe that ignoring the civil rights of moslems is a small price to pay for added security. How does that story go...."First, they came for the Jews, and I wasn't a Jew so I didn't worry." "Then thay came for the gypsies, and I wasn't a...."

Many folks would probably put me on the far right. One client told me: "Before Sept 11, I thought you were an extremist and a little paranoid. Now, I believe the rest of us have caught up with you."

Make no mistake that little piece of paper in the national archieves puts limitations on government and ALL of us as well, left and right. It guarrantees everyone's rights including law-abiding people of all religions and nationalities. It gets in the way alot, that is exactly what it was designed to do.

My greatest fear is that we will soon lose its protection. Today, several parts of the constitution are either ignored (see the 10th amendment), or have had its meaning warped- see the 2nd & 3rd amenments. If we need to limit gun ownership- AMEND the Constitution. It will take 2/3 of us to do so.

RAllen,

Shhhh.... don't let the 2/3's of the nation know that they can change the constitution. Keep in mind that a lot of those 2/3's are located on the coasts and assist in pushing the extreme right agenda.... /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Rick,

I doubt I can easily be pigeonholed as either left or right, liberal or conservative. The classification would depend entirely on the topic and the "classifier". My point was that our liberties, and indeed our very lives, can be and are threatened by truly extreme factions at both ends of the political spectrum on a variety of topics.

I am not sure what to make of your post./w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Keep in mind what is called extreme right today would have been considered middle of the road circa 1960-1965. The left uses those labels to move the field- whats moderate today could be considered rightwing tomorrow. If so, I wear the badge proudly/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif.

Rick,

Okay, let's go the direct route... A large majority of the extreme right live on either coast (large population centers with large universities). Most of the US population lives on the east and west coasts. Most people are probably oblivious to or forgot the fact that it takes a 2/3s majority to amend the constitution (have to influence the state assemblies anywho).

Agreed, the labels extreme right or left, moderate, etc. are relative to the times, but the meaning is still there. Now, today the key word is being progressive vice liberal. Sounds much more pleasant, doesn't it. Pinko's!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

hey, we could all drive our tractors somewhere!
i would prefer someplace where they serve food myself.
[a forest creature has to eat you know].

we could break into two groups....
one group with front loaders, one group without.

we would let the news media try to figure out what that meant...

then maybe we could have some of the loaders very close to the ground, and some level with the top of the front tires.....

;)
