Oh yeah, I've got no delusions about the ease of designing a practical pruning shear mod to a grapple without usability consequences. Just thought it's a good idea..

it is a very good idea, it is just the logistics of making one that gets in the way. The idea was floated out a number of months (years?) back and it came to the same conclusion.

Here's a new review, courtesy of Richard from TX. He has our 72" Dual Lid Wicked Grapple installed on his 4530 Mahindra.

"Very well built MADE IN USA. I picked a 12' Green Hickory Log 17" in diameter off of a lowboy trailer with no problem and it makes cleaning up brush and limbs a breeze. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Grapple. It's Light Weight and a BEAST."

My brilliant wife asked me why the grapple doesn't have a big heavy-duty pruning shear on one side so that I can just reach up, grab a branch, and cut it off in one motion. I'm thinking that sounds like a good idea! Anyway, she put up a fuss about the grapple purchase originally, but about halfway through yesterday's efforts she changed her mind and said it was the most useful thing I've ever bought ever in the history of ever.

I'm pretty sure it was J J that posted this in another thread I read here the other day. Could always add a 4th function and 1 of these.

Here's a review just submitted by David in Arkansas:

"Just wanted to report that my 66" Wicked Grapple was delivered last Thursday and I am impressed! Solid as a tank. Carried it to the farm, detached the loader bucket and had it in operation in 5 min. I have 140 acres that has just been logged and the crew left the roads in a real mess, this grapple is going to save me some backbreaking work. Started in Friday and worked 3 days moving tree tops out of the way, this tool is awesome, I have a Kubota MX5100 and LA844 loader, the grapple will easily pick up a 40 foot tree top, 20 inch logs, stumps, what ever in reason I asked of it. Focused on the main camp it would pile all there pallets, cans and junk and just pick it up right out of the way, then smooth over the area in combo with my box blade. Pulled, yanked, pushed and lifted for three days. Well it isn't pretty anymore, few scratches but it is not bent, dulled or broken. Great job on this new design."

Just wanted to thank everyone on TBN that contribute to these posts. After reading through hours of posts I just put the order in with Jeremy for a 54" Wicked Root Grapple for my L4740.

Great choice. That's my choice for a replacement if I can ever manage to wear out my 48" Millonzi. Given how tough these small grapples are, that could be in a decade or so.

Also agree. The 54" is a very good selection for an L4740. Pictures when you get it please.

Yaupon is taking over the country here in Deep East Texas. We have a new 5555 Mahindra. When I bought it, my dream was to be able to clear Yaupon and other undesirable brush. Currently we are experimenting with an inexpensive 72 inch tooth bar on our 78 inch bucket. Is it realistic to use a Wicked Grapple on Yaupon and what size would be appropriate? The Mahindra is 55 hp and weighs 6,000 pounds.

Most of our yaupon is around the base of oak trees where a grapple is of little use. I just manually cut yaupon about 12" above ground and immediately treat the stumps with Liquid stump and vine killer. I use Bonide brand but have used Greenlight brand.

After a few months they will easily break off at ground level.
