Thermostate Location

I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla SR-5 Sport Coupe with 144,000 miles on it and need to replace the orginal thermostate. Problem is, I don't know where it is located in the cooling system. Pulled the top hose entering the engine and didn't see a thermostate. Where is it?

It's 20 years old :
MAybe some one took it out some years ago.

Not sure which engine you have, but it should be located on the inlet side of the water pump.

There should a housing that the radiator hose connects to, if you pull the two bolts that hold it on you should be able to pull it off and replace the thermostat. For more info see the Autozone website as firedog suggested.

You really need to get a manual. My Saturn has the T-stat all the way up by the over flow tank on the radiator. No conventional housing on the thing.
