I have started using Amazon as my first choice. I can do this when the parts places are closed even and often it shows up in a couple days ground.

When I ripped the clutch bracket off helping the neighbor in some tall weeds I went on line about 11 PM and ordered it off of Ebay from NY. Best price/free shipping and showed up 2-3 days ground. I it showed up at first I wondered what was in the box.

For $400 or less of cash I prefer ATM over the live option is $20's are fine.

Customer service is not job one any more.

I liked the story about the owner's daughter.

...what isle would I find chow chow on.

The expectation is different for an employee in a grocery store, but I had to look up "chow chow," as I have never heard of it outside the context of of a Chinese dog breed.

Geographic vocabulary and usage is interesting to me. My family is originally from the South, but I grew up in southern California. Thus, I say "Take the 210 to the 134. It will become the 101, and takes you straight into Santa Barbara." Using "the" to specify which freeway is incorrect grammatically, but is normal usage here. "Freeway" is used virtually exclusively, while "interstate," if used at all, is only said by transplants.

I never heard about something that "needs fixed" until I dated a girl from Tennessee. Here, "cot" and "caught" are indistinguishable in pronunciation, and a sweet carbonated beverage is a "soda," never "pop."

It is sometimes easy to misconstrue someone's misunderstanding as ignorance, when it is simply a vocabulary difference. That makes it all the more frustrating when trying to explain using alternate terms it becomes obvious the other person is totally clueless about things. The alternate terms get mixed up more and more. Churchill said Americans and Englishmen were two peoples separated by a common language, and I think that is true internally as well. :)

I know what "chow chow" is, yet i dont eat it. Im 30 yrs old raised here and born in south carolina. I admit i did have to look up a few years ago what it was made of.

POP is never said here unless your a yankee. Soda is not used unless your from somewhere else or um hows the PC way to say this...., well theres not one. Anyway its coke here, regarless of the type usually, i call it all coke. But my family use to own Coke bottling plants in the low country. I do call it Mt dew as i drink that as well. but refer to all carbonated beverages as Coke.

That really confused me when I first encountered it. Someone suggested we "go for a Coke," and I brought back a Coca-Cola for her and a Sprite for myself. I'm sure my expression was priceless when she said "Thanks for the Sprite. I didn't know you drank Coca-Cola."

And thats how we can spot a Southern Californian visiting up here in Northern California. (400+ miles north of Los Angeles, 500? miles north of you. :)) "Take I5 to I80 then west until you reach 101 in San Francisco". Never 'the', no 'Interstate' unless you are announcing traffic on tv, and 'Freeway' only when you need to distinguish it from its parallel equivalent that it superceded. "Take the Freeway, not Redwood Highway (or El Camino Real)." Or "old 40 over Donner Summit is prettier than the freeway."

hella true.

Did I say that right?
Dunno, I'd have to ask my kids. :D

I suspect the reply would be 'oh Dad that is so five years ago!' :D :D

To my ear, that sounds like it originated with the Islanders, ie Hawaiian kids slang repeated on the mainland.

I was working on a project once and needed a radiator hose ( 1 1/2 inch inside diameter and 18 inches long) The counterman at the local AutoZone freaked out because he needed to enter a vehicle into the computer to look it up. I could see all the radiator hoses hanging on the rack behind him, but he just wasn't up to the task to actually look at the hoses and find what I needed. He just kept telling me " I've got to have a vehicle and year" Drove a few miles further to a parts store where the counterman simply walked back, grabbed what I needed and sold it to me.
Needless to say, I've never gone back to AutoZone

I've been a parts guy in dealerships since 1979 and it aggravates ME to have to call a parts store for something for a used car or a generic item. It's a little better now that I have gotten access to order from them online. Computerized catalogs has definitely dumbed down the job. I needed a solenoid for my Massey last year so I stopped by the Oreillys that I deal with. They do have some tractor listings so I tried that first. No go. So I finally asked if he had one for a '67 6-cyl Chevy truck. That blew his mind. But it goes well with the '77 Camaro alternator. LoL
And the trained techs (mechanics) today will walk in asking for a 10mm nut but they have an 8mm screw in their hand. They think the wrench size is the screw size.
