Never have been able to figure out what the prob is that folks have with those new cans. I had to buy one gas, one diesel because I simply didn't have enough cans. Never had a prob with them at all and I don't even need a compass :)

I don't mind the cans with the yellow cap. It pours slow but I'm usually not in a hurry. The ones I do mind are the newer ones that have no cap at all. Instead of a cap they have a spring loaded piece of crap stopper that you have to catch on an edge to open. The filler neck on my tractor is 5 feet off the ground. I have to hold the can at arms length with the spout tip balanced on the filler neck while the fuel dribbles into the tank....for what seems like an eternity.

Looking into the crystal ball I see a really big funnel in my future.

I have one of the new 5 gallon cans and it sex. Self-venting my butt... anyone who loves them so much that they toss the old ones should pm me their address. I'll send a UPS call tag to get them. "They pour slower, but I am never in a hurry.." tell that to my arms holding 20 lbs of gas in the air... I can tell you that that can always has the oldest gas in it... last one I ever empty.

Hehehe, this is funny. They do pour much slower but if you are not watching this could be great. The old ones that dumped 1 gallon per 5 seconds also ran gas over at the same rate if you were full and was not looking.

Or you could be like my BIL. He bought a new one (we usually used old hydraulic buckets...with an old JD350 crawler, you have plenty of these around in new condition) and fussed that something was wrong. So he drilled a hole in the oppisite side. Works like a champ now!! He just sticks a nail or spike in the hole when transporting. No Problem!! :D

CURLY DAVE IM GONNA TRY YOUR APPROACH.
I have noticed with the cans if you try to pour too fast they start chug a lug in and gas will spray all over the place. This isnt a problem if you can put the spout in deep in the filling tank. The wife and I decided after a few close calls this summer to carry a couple of those one gallon cans on our atvs. One day she ran out of fuel while i was leading and didnt realize it.After a few miles I realized she wasnt there:D I pulled off and waited[thinking she was peeing:) ]After 5 minutes I struck out looking for her. When i found her she was pouring the gas,and werent she ever swearing like a sailor, about that can.She claimed it took she had been pouring for 7 or 8 minutes and still wasnt done.I didnt believe it until I had to dump in mine. You have to hold the little thingy back and she was right ,it would be quicker with a quarter inch siphon hose.So the next time i took the spout right off to pour.when you take it off and it turns over gas goes every where ,it seems the gas only comes out if its up side down...well if you ever did this you know what im talking about.ANOTHER problem if the cap isnt exactly perfect they leak gas all over in transport.
I was gonna buy a couple new blue ones for diesal, but im gonna have a good quick transfer pump because i aint holding the can that long. They are not worth 12 bucks either.I think ill get a car gas tank with the fuel pump intact and use that to haul my tractor fuel.Everytime i fill up anything i smell like joe the gas station attendant afterwards.
HAS ANYONE TRIED THAT CAN ON HARBOR FREIGHT WITH THE LITTLE PUMP?

I'm glad someone else is having the same troubles I'm having with these *&X$#?> things.

Another case of someone having a "better idea"!

I've spilled more fuel since using these things than in forty years before.

I hope you don't mean the "no-spill" variety, like these.

I absolutely love these cans. I even bought a no-spill neck for my 5 gallon deisel jug. I've not experienced the awkwardness you describe - quite the opposite, because I climb up on to my tractor with the can, rest the can on it's side, put the filler neck into the tank opening, and push the button to release the fuel. Until I push that button no fuel leaks out so I cna take my time. The can is just resting on its side so all I'm doing is holding it steady.

And for a small can for the chainsaw it is great. I spend much less time gassing up than my buddy who has a more traditional filler on his can.

In the Peoples Republic of California Nanny state, we've been stuck with those darn things for a few years.

What I did find, however, is that the Kerosene cans were not so regulated and I was able to buy a 2.5 gallon Kero can to use to fill my tractor. I have several older 5 gallon Diesel cans I fill at the red dye pump and also the Kero can then use the Kero can to refill the tractor. A lot easier than hoisting the 5 gallon cans. Then I refill the Kero can from the bigger ones.

With a two inch opening for the tractor tank, the non spill jobs are a ready made spill. I've not tried the ones Lopezian has.

They were designed by some liberal that never filled a tank with on.e
