I heard on Arboristsite that John Deere was behind the tighter emissions on Chainsaws. They guy said JD owned a company that had technology for cleaner running chainsaws so they lobbied for tighter emissions on them thinking they could sell the company and make a killing but things did not work out like they planned.
I think that was essentially what started the Strato saws Sthil made. Turns out they make more power, are cleaner and have wider torque. Little heavier is all but the EPA doesn't care about that.
