I have a crazy high limit on my cc that I never use the slightest portion of. In the bank last week and the teller asks if I want an increase. How Stupid? I don't get it. I said, I don't need it but would take it just for bragging rights.

Indian calls me at 7 AM this week to say that some suspicious activity was noticed for on line purchase on my CC. I say, that was me. He says, are you sure? I say yes, thank him for his good work and hang up.

Yep, I have never, and undoubtedly will never, use one tenth of my limit.:laughing:

After 35+ years of paying cash or check for everything and having no credit score, my wife got a credit card and I got one as an authorized user.
30+ years later we both have credit scores in the 800's with very high CC dollar limits.
During this time we still have never "borrowed" money for any other item except using the CC's which we pay off every month.
I use the card to pay most of my business expenses so I rack up relatively high bills during our working season but also get decent cash back rewards .
After decades of cash bought used cars, my wife bought a new car and financed it.

I assume everyone knows that credit scores are based on using credit.

A year ago my score was 830+. I paid off my house and canceled power/gas etc....(moved) I owed nobody for a year. I did have a Visa card for gas and whatever that is paid off fully each month, as it has been for my entire life. Now my credit score is like 770 with no debt and I've never been late on anything EVER. So how does it go down???

The whole system is based on being in debt and making the payments. Not really fair to those of us who save up and pay cash for most everything.:confused3:

Same here, no debt, no late payments, no defaults but only have a 780 credit score. I only use one credit card to make online purchases. Wife has a couple that she uses at department stores. I bet her credit score is higher than mine (never checked it) but she gets letters frequently wanting her to apply for credit cards, I never get any.

I have done this a few times.
Pay the card off within 23 days of billing date.
Wait for the $150,..... do not use the card ever again.
Then ....several months later...cancel the card.
"I changed my mind"
= free $150

I did that with Home Depot once. Got a card for some introductory offer. Bought Solution Dyed Nylon Commercial Carpeting, which I made them price match at a really low price. I bet they lost money on that deal. And, I never touched the card again after that. It's despicable how they try and set these traps to get people to fall into debt.
