I know that but what in my post made you think I tried doing that? Local gas and grocery's was all I tried buying.

"they sit and wait for an emergency high dollar item that you need immediately, and don't have the money for, and probably won't be able to cover within 20 days"

Right, I said that because they do that, give the person the money and the person wont be able to pay it within the 20 days. That's what I meant. I didn't mean the CC company wouldn't give it to them.

We notify our bank and credit cards when we are about to travel out of state. This way, they know we are traveling and that it is us traveling and using our cards.

I don't recall ever hearing of that being done. IF . . . they actually have a way of recording the information, sounds like a good idea. But of course, we traveled to every state except California and Hawaii for six years, including a couple of long trips to Alaska and never had a credit card problem when we were doing that.

I think this is an attempt on the CC companies part to minimize losses due to fraudulent charges. I don't blame them. I still can't figure out why they do cover them. Maybe cause they are getting sinfully rich from consumer's poor financial planning?

But I digress. I don't think you raised a flag to them because you are a frequent traveler. I on the other hand am not. I've been contacted three times asking if it's me using my card? Doesn't bother me at all. :)

If we didn't call our Bank/Visa, our card would be declined until we called. This protects us from out-of-state fraudsters, to a certain extent.

They did find some uber charges from California and knew it wasn't on our itinerary so those charges were reversed. I'm glad our bank is vigilant.

I had a gas company Visa card bounce once ... at the pump .... just after I had already used it at the same pump. I filled the car, then shut it off and restarted it to fill some gas cans. I needed to do that because of different budget codes in an accounting program I used. Their story was that there was a history of people stealing CCs and using them at gas stations to fill several cars in a row, collecting cash from the other drivers. I thought that was a bit far fetched.
