Some here would take exception to that. Even I might.

But 'they' is Experian and they call my 807 FICO Score 'Exceptional'.

I guess that's what happens when all of your bills are autopaid so your less than exceptional memory doesn't forget to send them in.

When I've been called "exceptional" I did not take it as compliment

DI- Congratulations.

None of my bills are "autopaid", but Experian still thinks I too am "exceptional".
I am 78 years old.....why would I care?

I seldom check my FICO score, and when I do, I just look at the number. So you made me have to go look. And yep, my 840 is also listed as EXCEPTIONAL.

I've never needed to know my score. Guess that makes me exceptional too. :confused3:

I don't pay any attention to my score, when I go to buy something and they offer me 0% I know it's fine..

I assume everyone knows that credit scores are based on using credit.

A year ago my score was 830+. I paid off my house and canceled power/gas etc....(moved) I owed nobody for a year. I did have a Visa card for gas and whatever that is paid off fully each month, as it has been for my entire life. Now my credit score is like 770 with no debt and I've never been late on anything EVER. So how does it go down???

The whole system is based on being in debt and making the payments. Not really fair to those of us who save up and pay cash for most everything.:confused3:

Debt lovers score........a zero should be the goal. Only product in the world you beg them to let you buy it. And as the thread shows brag about how good you look in their eyes. The most marketed and studied industry in the world.....we are merely their sheeple

Glad you splained it to us.
For a moment I thought I had a competitor for the short bus....:D

That's just about me until last fall. House and both cars paid off, no loans, two CCs that autopaid all recurring utilities, both CCs paid off in full every month (earning rewards). The kicker was that I didn't have any real income. Just a very small pension. The rest was coming out of savings. And they STILL showed me at 790-805 most months. That's how the tractor loan was so easy to get. Since then the numbers haven't changed a lot due to the tractor loan debt load.

I haven't had a store card in about 20 years, but today I decided to add a TSC card so I could get their 6 month same as cash promo for a couple of implements and earn rewards from them also. Approval was instant.

FICO will probably take a hit for a couple of months until the payment pattern stabilizes again.

I think they call that 'Special' or maybe 'Special Needs'.

I probably fit that too these days. I know a few members here think so.

Consider the source. You are only exceptional to the degree that you are a target for a lender to focus on.

Had a friend of mine always paid cash. Never had a loan or CC. Then went to buy a car and decided to get it before he had all the cash so took out a loan. No credit history so loan rate was twice "normal". He was NOT happy.

I don't know if I'm exceptional or not, but some say I am out standing in my field.
That is my favorite thing to do also.

A few years ago I went to a Chevy dealer to buy a car for my daughter. They had a low interest financing deal so they had to check my credit. The salesman came back and said I could qualify for two of anything on the lot, including the Corvettes. I told him I would stick with the Cobalt because that was why my credit was good.

This reminds me of something that happened to us some years back. We were full time RVers living in a fifth-wheel travel trailer and were in Las Vegas when I noticed an RV dealer having a "sale" with free hot dogs and such, and there was a new 40' motorhome sitting out front that I thought we might like. So, after visiting with a salesman for awhile, we decided to take it for a test drive. And while doing so, I told that salesman that if I bought it, it would have to have the side view mirrors changed, one roof vent changed to a power exhaust fan, a good CB radio installed, etc. When we got back to the dealership, I was going to park it back out front, but the salesman told me to go on around to the service department. He got out and started telling the service writer to do all the things I'd said. I told him, "Wait a minute! I'll have to apply to finance part of the cost." He said, "Oh, I've already checked your credit and they're going to give you whatever you want." Sure took me by surprise.
