With hundreds of thousands of new auctions every day -- you can't expect much individual investigations. I have been a member of eBay for years -- and have yet to get ripped. Knock on wood

Re: They\'re at it again!

I think ebay is great for buying a known commodity like a part or a computer card from someone who sells those and has good feedback. A great low cost transaction. The problem starts when you apply these principles to a large ticket item that is often used. One person's good condition is another person's fair or poor condition--and that assumes a people who are trying for an honest transaction. Then there are those who are trying to scam the buyer or seller. When it gets to that much money, you have to look at the item carefully. The problem is that then you may be in it for travel money and not even win the auction. So some decide they will take the risk and bid on something assuming that the description is correct and if something isn't mentioned to have any problems then it doesn't have any problems.

We have all seen the variety of mis-information on yanmar tractors on ebay. I am sure anything of any age or that is in limited supply will have such problems in some cases. Any seller can be the proverbial used car salesman--honest or not.

This doesn't even mention shilling of the auctions or other types of fraud that can happen.

Re: They\'re at it again!

Not that it is a big deal but I like for the subject to lead into the post not just continue listing the orginal subject. Now back to ebay. You get what you put in. I am a collector so I do a lot of research and never spend big dollars unless I can use paypal. I didn't buy my yanmar on ebay. I was going to but after looking at number of road side dealers, reading this broad, and seeing the great variation in condition I choose to spend a little more and buy from Bruce at TT. I am trying to buy a truck on ebay now but I have spend 2 months watching dealers sell and now feel comfortable about the dealers that am biding with. I think it will go well.

( diesel tractor advertised with a rebuilt "carburetor" wins. )

Does kerosene count?

( For that fact.. anyone know if a tractor designed to run on kerosene will run on diesel? )

Lots of the antiques either started on gas via a small tank.. then when warm could be switched over to kero or distilate... some were kerosene from the start.. like a 9NAN.. etc.

When looking at the LIST OF POSTS, how do you know which are part of the same thread?

If the ONLY view was a threaded view, your opinion would be fine, but seeing that many people view the listings by looking at Posts in the last X hours, your liking the subject to change, sure makes things difficult to parse.

Re: They\'re at it again!

Gatorboy - I probably haven't participated in as many ebay transactions as you, however the ones I have bid on are usually large ticket items. On quite a few of the auctions there was obvious shilling (artificially inflating pricing) and other shenanigans (misrepresentation) going on. These were identified and brought to the attention of ebay, who responded with an automated message and nothing more...

While I'm sure there are many honest ebay transactions each day, there is also quite a bid of fraud being perpetrated on ebay as well (as others have indicated too). The purpose of my post was provide an honest evaluation of my ebay experiences and hopefully help others avoid costly situations.

You're probably right that ebay can't "investigate and take appropriate action" due to the volume, however they shouldn't state it as their policy (to give the impression they are actually doing something). That's my 3 cents (just raised my own bid...).

Re: They\'re at it again!

I've had good results when complaining to Ebay about questionable sales claims. They or the seller have pulled the auction within 24 hours. My biggest complaint is that it takes so long to find the right Ebay page to file the complaint on.

Re: Baloney! -Re: You guys are being too tough on Ebay

Kerosene is pretty much the same as #1 fuel oil, which is what is blended with #2 diesel for a winter blend. It can be run in a diesel. It is more refined then #2, It burns a little cleaner & why it specifies for space heaters rather than #2. I use #2 in space heaters & don't notice much difference. It is simpler than having a seperate tank for #1.

Re: Baloney! -Re: You guys are being too tough on Ebay

Neat, thanks for the info. I may one day get an alternate fuel ford.. and just wondered if diesel was an option.. besides.. lots of these jd a's and b's are gas/kero.. etc.

thanks

May not sound too good, but at least maybe he's honest about it. I'd rather have that than the salesman who pretends to know when he doesn't. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
