About the time copper prices started to really climb, the power company was dropping off new poles in our area to replace the old ones.
I noticed how much copper they had on the poles. At the bottom of the pole, the copper lines was wrapped in a spiral circle, I guess to get a good ground. There was a LOT of copper on those poles. I figured that someone would drive by and steal the copper but they did not. The poles were left in town along the road so I guess that stopped any thieves.
I jokingly thought that it won't be long before the thieves start taking down the poles to get to the copper. Saw a headline over the last month or so where they were doing this out west.
The AC thefts are big in our area too. The scrap yards are supposed to track who drops off material but proving that this pit of copper was stolen would be interesting.
We have a guy in town that takes old cars, hard to think of cars from the 70's or 80's as old, and "pimps" them up. He did a real good job on the cars and they were very distinctive. One of them was purple with big, low profile tires.

That paint job was excellent.
That car got stolen and taken for scrap. REALLY? By the time the car was tracked down, the car had been crushed. You are supposed to have title to a car or paper work stating that the car has no title. The guy who stole the car was arrested but that did not help the car. The scrapper who bought the car should have been arrested as well. There is no way that anyone in their right mind would have scrapped that car. It was worth some money.
