Took a walk to Burger King for lunch, I need to regain some of the weight I lost. Talk about the cost of eating out!
$7.66 for a XT burger with medium fries and a medium soda. But it痴 only a burger.

While I知 at it, what is the true cost of a sack of potatoes? The last time I bought 10 lbs of potatoes it was $ 7.50.
Now is that the real cost? If you factor in the farm price supports I pay through my taxes to warehouse a hill of taters its more like $50 for 10 lbs.
If I don稚 eat a potato it is still coating me $50 for what I not eating. Now I am not saying that farmers shouldn稚 make a living, but why not let market forces set the price? It would still cost me $50 for potatoes, and we would save to cost of the government to administer the program.

Another point I don稚 understand. When I buy peppers at the market, I pay $ 2.75 / lb. In the farmers field, the farmer gets x $ per bushel. The farmer sales his crop by the volume and I buy by the pound. Some where I feel I am getting ripped off.

Where in the world did you spned $7.50 for 10# of potatoes? Are they "organic" or something, or maybe French fingerlings? I get 10# of potatoes for about $3.00 unless they are on sale. I bought 5# of red potatoes and 5# of Yukon Golds for $2.50 each juat last week because SWMBO prefers those for potato salad.

In general, I do agree that food prices are going up, and I see many fresh vegetables up as much as 50%, but the potatoes are still "reasonable" around here. Now, onions, on the other hand, seem to be like oil sometimes. Just a year or so ago I could get 3# bags of yellow onions for $0.99, and now I get them on sale for maybe $1.50, but they hit $3.00 and over some times in the year.

I went to Burger King for lunch Friday. Whopper Junior with cheese for $1.49 and onion rings for $1.00. Free water.

Not only are all the prices going up at the grocery stores, but Walmart is still the cheapest overall. But it does annoy me that they apparently assume we're too dumb to understand their price "Rollback". One example of how they've done so many things is that bananas have been $0.39 a pound for some time. Walmart recently went up to $0.46 a pound, then just a few days later went up to $0.52 a pound, and in another few days, back down to $0.46 a pound with a sign "was $.52" to make it appear they gave us a price reduction when it was really a price increase. All that was done in less than 10 days.

Yes, we not only will be gouged by paying higher fuel prices, but unfortunately we will pay for retailers addition cost as well.

I think even if the price of transportation fuels fell off, we would still see higher cost for some time for commodities that paid higher for inventory or materials until they deplete their inventories.

Where I draw the line is coffee, 10 bucks a can? really?? Talk about "kick'n" a guy when he's down.

My government says that there is no inflation... no COLA needed for probably two more years! Green peppers were $2.99 a pound last week for making a pot of chicken curry, boneless skinless chicken breast were $1.69 a pound... somethings wrong with that picture.

My social security checks have not increased in the 2 years I have been receiving them because the feds say there has been no inflation.

Surely, the feds know more than we do.

The items used to calculate the cost of living are never the items you buy daily, strange how food price increases account for a small part of inflation. If one of the items in the food basket has increased it is removed or we get double talk.

Another waste you will see at the produce counter is say peppers at 1.75/lb., only half of the shipment will be sold and the remainder goes into the dumpster. Why not lower the price and sell 100%?

Funny how everyone can pass along increases but we are stuck with a fixed income. How come those calling on us to sacrifice and do with less never give up anything?

At transit we have had a pay freeze for the last 3 years and furlough days the last 1-1/2 years. In all the years I have been with transit we have had 4 pay freezes, never did recover to where we should be. We accept lower pay for the security and benefits, now it looks like the states want to take that away too. But they always find money for the non working. Why do welfares need a free cell phone paid for by us? Who do they need to call?

Yep, my wife only gets a couple of hundred after they deduct for medicare, and no change the last couple of years. However, my pension has an escalation clause so I get a little increase each year. This year the increased income tax withheld and health insurance increases left me with a $36.69 a month decrease in income.

Ditto on the Whopper Jr. (I have a Gold Card from there). Sr Drink is $.50. Maybe you should head to the waistline reduction forum so you don't need a sack of potatoes to get that 'full' feeling.

And, please don't use up all the Medicare and Medicade money because you need new hips, knees, a few stents, quad bypass and a Scooter to get around because of your appetite. I may need some later for my own issues.

Can not say, no politics on the forum.

Really ... even so there appears to be nothing to be done, we can not stop ... everyday life calls for everyday items and we buy them.

Been to the feed store lately? Thats a whole new conversation !!

Higher fuel prices directly relate to higher costs of most everything so "get used to it". Add that to the wild weather conditions that affected growers last year. I just may start a garden this year.

I am recovering from cancer surgery, I lost weight, 175 down to 145 pounds. I am at 149 & ¾ now. I eat at BK maybe twice a week, my goal is 150-152 pounds, than I can stop.

Sorry to hear about your surgery and hope that you have a full recovery. I play hockey 3 -4 times a week and have trouble keeping my weight up. I now drink an Ensure a few times a day and that sure helps me get above 165#. I prefer the vanilla because it tastes like a BK shake. Buy it by the case at Costco or Sams.

Walgreens has Cadbury Royal Dark 3.5oz candy bars on sale 4 for $5. Eat one of those every day, you'll gain. I guarantee it.

I am glad to see there is actual working class people here on this forum that doesnt blame the working class, and retired people for all the problems in the U.S.

So many things I would like to comment but, it would be political!
