Part of my 40 acres was a watermelon field farmed by work horses back in the teens and '20s/'30s. Every couple of years I dig up a old large worn out horse shoe some where on the property. The bigger ones are about 8" across.

I hang them in the tractor shed for good luck.

i hit a horse shoe with my mower now and then. 10ac of my 13.2 ac was an old w-mellon field too.. I every now and then unearth a piece of a disc blade... usually with a tire.. :)

Maybe a little off topic, but while grading a road in souther Iraq, I watched something roll over my blade and disappear into the windrow. The first thing to cross my mind was a land mine. I stopped the grader, called E.O.D., (Explosive Ordinace Disposal) or "Bomb Squad", they came out after 4-5 hours, dug it up, and it turned out to be a torque converter. As for the field, nothing but old barbed wire.

I've got friends in EOD, I call them Migrant Bomb Pickers. :)

Neat thread. Let's see... A complete axil from what I don't know. Looks to be an old wagon but there are brakes on one of the wheels. The head of some kind of engine, looks to be 4 clynder. Strangest thing was an old railroad car wheel found along side an old road. (our place had been vacant for 50 years before we bought it). This wheel was filled in with concrete and had a threaded attachment that would accept a metal pipe. An old timer said people used to put their mailbox on these things. Assorted iron pieces. We have an old corn sheller that has a large cedar tree growing up through it. Out back there is some type of grass cutters with trees grown up through them too.

Old horseshoes MUST be hung open-end-up, otherwise all the good luck will spill out!

Mowed my new pasture for the first time a few weeks ago, came across a flat piece of steel on the ground. Flipped it over, turns out it was the front door off an old safe. Looked around for the rest of the safe, no such luck. &)@"#{|!!!
