Things to do in Tazewell?

So, wife is giving me the nod that next summer its looking like a tractor can be coming into the house (helps that I got a new job that pays better, and first thing we bought was a new patio set set she’s been eyeing up ), so Im now entering window shopping mode, with intent to buy next spring(ish).

With that being said, Ive been eyeing up PTs for a while now, and as it so happens we will be vacationing down in Amherst VA, about 3 hours or so from Tazewell. I live in south NJ, so its about an 8 hour drive otherwise. Since Ill be close by, I was thinking of steeling away a day to go visit the PT show room, but was wondering if there was anything else worth checking out in the area and making a day of it with my wife.

Not sure if anyone familiar with the area had any recommendations or input here.

I have never been to Tazewell, but nearby Abingdon, VA is a swank little town with culture.

If you like to bicycle, the Virgnia Creeper Trail, lower termination in Abingdon, is wonderful. You can pay one of several bike rental services to take you to the top in NC, 37 miles from Abingdon, then ride down/back with 3,000 decrease in elevation making 37 mile ride relatively easy. There are nice summer cabins along the trail and several hamlets in which to rest or eat. A very pleasant half day.

Virgina Creeper Trail is packed and well maintained. I rode my street bike with narrow tires. Real men ride UP from Abingdon and have the service pick them up at the top.

I have been there several times but never did any sightseeing. Someone earlier mentioned I believe was an Amish settlement not to far away that was nice to visit, sorry I can't remember too much about it.

If you've already been "eyeing up" PT's for a while AND you take a trip out there to play with some, you're a better man than I to expect not buying before next spring........you may want to start workin' the better half for an earlier time frame.

I believe it is Burke痴 Garden. A very isolated settlement in a volcano like structure. There is not a lot to it with just one store, but look up the history.
