Oh I agree it is a nice thickness to work with and would be very sturdy. Problem is, it is too thick for anything I have to work it! No shear or brake I have access to can bend it. 16ga is the limit, and probably pushing it. I should check that out. I have a scrap of 16ga here I can try bending and shearing. See how it holds up. If it does, then I have my answer. If not I will probably need to back off to 18ga. Gotta work with what I've got...

OK...Finally some progress. I found a new steel place locally and they were very good to deal with. Not super cheap as they didn't have drop prices vs regular, but they are small enough that they don't have a huge drop inventory yet, I guess. So I had them shear up a 16 ga sheet for the drawers and a case for the drawers. Did nice work on that. Nice and square and right on dimensions. I got some angle and other stuff from them too. Picked up some drawer slides and basic pulls and I was ready to go....

...3 months later when I finally got around to it (last weekend...) I made some progress. I got the drawers made, mounted, and re-did the tank rack, plus added a stop for the welder to keep it from sliding down the ramp.

The drawers were just awful. I was welding an outside corner joint on 16ga and I'm just not that good or smooth. Some of them went well, but others were pretty bad. The grinder solves a lot of bad welding, eh? Yes I practiced a bunch first, if only to dial in the settings on the wirefeed.

But they're done. Mounting them was a PITA as it was hard to work inside the narrow case. I had a few misdrilled holes. Some still need to be fixed when I take it apart for painting. I'll weld up those bad holes at that time with a brass backer bar or something.

And the tank rack is remade for my size tanks (125cf). It was too tall before and the tanks barely reached it, plus they didn't have any good way to secure them.

So here's a few pics of where I'm at now. I need to get some 1/8" plate for the drawer fronts and then mount the handles, and I need to make the cable holders and handle. I'm also thinking about something to hold the MIG gun better.

Pics of the tank rack. Now I'm set up for up to 3 tanks. I didn't put the other chains and hook on there yet.

Hey Ryan - I thought I saw you lurking around here too...

So you are saying you are just as slow as I am then? :)

I used the feeder late this summer to weld expanded metal onto my grill guard. Since the other time I tried doing that all I had was stick (3/32" 6013, straight polarity, IIRC) this was sooo much easier it almost made me cry. That was my first big use of it, the cart was the second, other than just burning some wire to get the feel of it.

I guess so :D. I was so busy working and using the feeder this summer that i never got around to making a mount for it. Now that things have slowed down i have the time.
I will post some pics of it here and on WW when i get around to it.

More progress. I got the cable holder rack made. I cut these "tombstones" out of 1/8" steel at work with a plasma cutter we have in the test area. I hadn't used one before and I was free-handing it, so they came out like crap. 2 hrs of cut-off wheels and grinding and they looked decent. I'm not sure how anyone gets decent cuts with a torch or plasma as you have to be steadier than rock to make good cuts.

So here's what they looked like after plasma. Crrrrrap!

And then I welded it up with the MIG (0.035 wire, 18.7V, ~240ipm) after significant cleanup.

Here is everything in place. I used some 3" long sections of 4" tube (~1/8" wall) as the standoff.

And with cables in place:

I was glad I made them so tall on the top as when I put the extension cord on there is was even too big to all fit. Big cords take a lot of room. What you see from front to back is 1. MIG gun 2. Work (ground) cable 3. Extension cable and Stick stinger.

You can think of the tombstone shape as my homage to Lincoln:D

Now I just need to get drawer fronts on (that's just drilling and screws for the handles) and then get the handle on. I'm not real worried about the handle right now.

One last shot:
