Well I did it the hard way and built the entire thing (except the bucket) but it was nice simply being able to attach to my truck and go.

The first issue I see is you will need lots of counterweight since the outriggers are at a 90 degree point to the bucket instead of 45 degrees similar to most towable units but... if it remains attached to the vehicle that will help. Mine was able to dig attached or unattached. You will need a platform for engine, tank, counterweight, etc.... the wheels are removable and can be placed on the back towards the rear outriggers so you can pull yourself around with the bucket.
You have a really good point. U think I’d be in rough shape if i just used the normal Branson stabilizers? I need them pushed out forward to make it usable? That could be a dealbreaker and force me to just get the dedicated towable sn

I don’t know how you plan on a towable backhoe as being more off-road capable than it already was attached to the tractor. You’re spending a lot of money to make a worse product.

Area I’m working in ground is too soft for my tractor. But not too soft for an atv or towable mower

I think the 90 degree ouriggers will cause you to put massive strain in your frame and counterweight, i think you would have to really reinforce your frame

I had a towable backhoe for a couple days until I got tired of it and sold it. For starters you’re seriously over estimating the off-road abilities of one of these. Your tractor goes WAY better. Mine had a 5hp motor and wasn’t enough. While in theory if your 5hp motor and pump were well matched it would work. It would be very slow. Mine had too much pump for motor and stalled all the time. I’d say you need at least 10 hp more like 15 to get satisfactory results. But I still say you’re spending a lot of time and money to get a worse product. Get a mini excavator if the backhoe can’t do the job mounted on the tractor.

Any more info on this? This is exactly what i am talking about. I just need to know what engine size is needed and other specs are helpful.

I am thinking i might get the towable backhoes that they make.

Where I’ll be going is harsh ground conditions. I don’t think it’s good for any machine really. The towable backhoes that the make might be the best solution.
