Kubota BX2200
Hi all,

I currently own a 2002 BX2200 with FEL. It has 325 Hours on it.

The dealer will sell me the BX23 for $15,500 and from what I have read on this site, that is pretty good.

They are offering me $7000 for my BX2200 trade-in. I am not so sure that is a good deal. They rattled of some $10 per hour formula for calculating the devaluation of the tractor.

What do you guys think? Should I do this deal or find another?

Finally, I was on Kubota's site and they mentioned "Optional protective stabilizer pads". Are they referring to the big hydraulic arms that stabilize the machine or some sort of pad for the bottom of the arms that come with the backhoe?

I'm curious why you'd trade a BX22 for a BX23 - is there that much difference? Seems like the folks who trade up in size usuall make a bit more of a jump than that. If I understand the Kubota naming scheme it would be like me trading up to a 4410... Just curious about it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The BX2200 doesn't have a backhoe option which is why I am soley considering the upgrade. The BX22/23 comes standard with, and are designed for the backhoe.

I think the dealer is offering a fair deal. The price for the BX23 if it includes a mower is very good. Without the mower it seems to be a decent price. Expect to lose money on a trade-in as the dealer needs to mark it up to make some money on reselling your tractor. You may be able to get $8,000 or more for it if you sell the B2200 on your own. A used tractor has to have a incentive price for it to sell or else someone will buy new and finance it. I thought about trading my B2410 (150 hrs) with FEL in for a BX23 and was only offered about $8,000 by my dealer. I paid about 15 K for it in 1999. Needless to say I am keeping my B2410 especially since I have several implements for it.
The BX23 is a nice machine. The backhoe has optional rubber stabilizer pads to answer your above question. If you really like the BX23 and don't want to bother selling it on your own, then I would go ahead with the trade-in. In my case I could spend about $6,000 and add a WOODS backhoe to the B2410 which would be less than trading in for a BX23.

Thanks for the feedback. I would be keeping my existing 60" MMM unless they are not compatible...HMMM...now you've got me thinking. I have just assumed it is the same. I am sticking with the same BX format in order to use the 'tiller, rake, and box scraper that I already have.

Your mower will fit the bx23. The rubber pads are for the stabilizer arms. They help the stabilizers not mark up a surface such as asphalt and concrete driveways. 15,500 sounds like a fair deal to me also. Have you considered selling your bx2200 privately. You may do better than what the dealler is offering.

The deal doesn't sound all that bad to me either. I would look at it kinda like this. The difference in cost is about $8500 and for that $8500 you get a Backhoe (worth what $4-5K alone?) and a new machine with 325 hours less (taking dealers $10/hour that's $3250 which essentially equals the difference your paying.

Along with this you get the stronger frame (because of backhoe), a 2004 year model and if you figure in the saving in tax $7000 * 8.25%(for me) = $577.50.

So by using all this new math of mine you are essentially getting the unit for the cost of the backhoe which is what your upgrading anyhow.

How does that sound? I've always said you can make the numbers say whatever you want........that's why I love statistics.

Good luck and if you take the plunge enjoy that new backhoe!

I know someone in western PA looking for a good BX2200. Your profile doesn't tell me the area your in (or anything else for that matter) /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. If your in the area, P.M. me and we'll see if we can put something together.

Don't give up on the trade-in just yet. On a whim, I inquired about pricing from two different dealers on a BX23, and one left-over BX22. I was shocked that the dealers were giving me so much for my trades.

In both cases the new BX23 was $14900 with no mower. The left over BX22 was $14,000.

I traded a used 1100 hour Bobcat 450 (small machine), I paid 3950 for it last summer....they gace me $4100 in trade.

I also traded my 2003 Gravely ZTR with only 12 hours.
I paid 6950 last summer, they gave me $6250.

The tax savings was almost $600, so my machines basically washed out....I simply could not pass it up.

One dealer was a full 1200 less for trade-in on the ZTR mower.

Call a couple places.

With no mower on your BX2200, just the loader, the 7700 seems about right. What can you buy a new one for ?? I think they are about $10,500 with loader new.

Eric, I made essentially the identical trade a year and a half ago. Of the two local dealers I spoke with, one was a grand higher on the trade and a grand lower on the price of the new machine...and got the business even though he was not the dealer who originally sold the BX2200 to me. Both are excellent dealers, but without prompting or asking, one gave me the best price up front. I'm guessing at this point, but I believe I got about 7.5K in trade for the BX2200 with 120 hours. Your local "demand conditions" will affect what you actually get, but your $7K trade offer sounds really good to me!

I also kept the 60" MMM and only needed to adjust the front bracked to give better clearance to the bar-turf tires when the deck is fully raised. (It's very close)

Be sure that the BX22/BX23 you get has the bar-turfs--they make a huge difference in digging performance and frankly, don't mark the lawn when mowing as long as you are not doing donuts in 4wd or trying to make tight turns when it's very wet. Some folks will get both sets of tires. I chose to stay with just the bar-turfs and have no regrets, nor any time taken by switching them around.
