I have a 2320 and am looking at getting a grappel attachement or bucket, I have a three acre lot that has brush and trees to clear up. Has anybody out there done this setup? I need suggestions for the 3rd function hydraulic, what is easiest and cheapest. And any suggestion on the grappel would be nice to know also. If you have any pictures I would would like to see them. I hate to reinvent the wheel:rolleyes:

I think on the 2x20 series tractor you will need to add an electric diverter to the loader hydraulics. It allows you to flip an electric switch to send hydraulic control to a different attachment. Definately not the most convinent way to operate a grapple!!

I do not own one of these but I have heard FASSE makes a good diverter...

do a search on 2520 hydraulics and you will find some very detailed instructions on how to do it. it should be very similar on the 2320. i added a two spool valve myself on my 2520 using the power beyond outlets behind the loader valve. cost about a dollar for the plug and o ring. better than the 300 deere wants for the pb kit.

Dale I have done the exact setup that you want to do on my 2320 and it works great:DThe way I did it was to add a diverter valve on the loader mast with a switch on the joystick. With the valve off ,the loader works as normal for dump, curl.Flip the switch on the joystick to energize the valve and hydraulic fluid is diverted from the loader dump cylinders to the grapple. The grapple I got from Markham welding.I did this last winter. The grapple was $1000.00 delivered, the diverter valve I got from the surplus center for around $230.00 and have about another $250.00 in hoses and fittings.Hope this helps.Tim.

All great advice...I guess you all don't need me anymore:cool:

It was actually your thread on your grapple setup that gave me the idea.By the way,Thanks.;)Tim.

You are welcome Tim-it is my pleasure to help.

The Electric Diverter is the best solution for the little JD's, because to add the "true 3rd function" that is often discussed (like from WR Long) involves accessing the power beyond circiut, and that is not very convenient of the JD's like it is on the Kubota's.

Not convenient? How so?

Not convenient? How so?

I guess from operating a large tlb with a factory 4in1 bucket where the extra hydraulics are controlled by twisting the joystick this diverter switch seems out of place but I am sure like many things would work fine once you were used to it...

I was refering to the fact that the 2x20 series do not have a factory 3rd scv but after thinking about where my control leverfor the 3rd scv on the 4120 is, the switch and diverter may not be so bad to run a grapple or 4in1...

T Man,
I'm looking to do this on my CCY Sc2400, essentially what you have done, and I believe the setup for hydraulics is pretty similar to the JD. I was wondering once you flip the switch, does the loader control just work the top portion/jaw of the grapple and you loose the up/down motion of the bottom part of the grapple, or do they both work in sync with one another? If you could elaborate on the grapple functions, it would be greatly appreciated.

The diverter ONLY "diverts" the dump/curl circuit of the loader, it has NO effect on the lift/lower function of the loader. Basically when the switch is held (a momentary switch is used), moving the joystick left/right causes the grapple to open/close. Releasing the switch returns all functions to normal.

Does that answer your question?

Kennyd,
It makes perfect sense. That might be one of the cheapest ways to install a grapple on one of these small tractors. I called and talked to WR Long today and their kit for the Sc2400 is 600 or might have been closer to 700 and then the cost of the markham was 900 if I picked it up, which wouldn't be a problem as I live like an hour or two from there. I just wonder with my lift capacity if it would be worth it to go with the markham instead of just getting a bucket attached grapple. Thanks again for the info.

What is your lift capacity? Remember that the grapple replaces the bucket, so say you lift is 1000lbs...and your bucket is 200lbs, then adding a LD-48 will only reduce the total by about 180lbs (the Markham LD-48 weights about 380). A small price to pay for the usefulness of the grapple IMHO.

According to CCY Sc2400 specs, the weight of the bucket is 130.lbs. The maximum lift capacity 500 mm forward of the pivot pins at maximum height, is 550 .lbs. The lift capacity at the pivot pins at maxium height is 700 .lbs. The breakout force at the bucket pins is 1350 .lbs. When I bought the tractor the dealer said that the numbers are about 25% less than what they really can hold. So there looks to be about a 250 pound difference between the grapple and the bucket. I'm not sure what a 4in1 bucket weighs, but the dealer had one on one of the tractors. I should have just baught that one as it was already setup for the third hydraulics and a 4in1 bucket. The weight on the 4in1 looks to be around 250 I'm thinking as the hydrualic setup is from WR. Long so I assume the win1 bucket would be from there also. So at 380, it wouldn't be that much difference than the 4in1.

I would guess the 4n1 weight more than 250lbs. A quick call to WR Long would get you a real number to work with-they are very helpful.

But also note that most grapples spend their life picking up piles of brush that have a lot of mass, but no real weight.

kennyd,

The weight of the 4n1 weighs 340 pounds. So it looks like a 40 pound difference between the grapple and 4n1. Like you say, brush isn't really heavy it's just bulky. I went over to the dealer this past weekend to check out a Sc2400 he had setup with the 4n1 and the WR Long kit, but being that it was a holiday weekend, he wasn't open. So I took a look at my hydraulics a little tonight to see how it plumbs and it looks like my 3 point is running off the PB port on the loader valve. Here's a picture of the loader valve. It looks like there might be a unused port on the 3 point that I might be able to tap into. I think I would probably split the line from the loader valve to the 3 point and run the controls off of that. That is if it's possible. I might just go with the WR long kit and be done with it as it would include everything I need and after pricing some items, the cost might be close to what the WR long kit is. I appreciate the help as I'm always looking to learn new things which is one reason I might go with piecing some things together so I can learn/understand how it all works. Attached is a picture of the loader valve.

The WR Long kit is a good deal...a few dollars can be saved piecing it together yourself, but a lot of time is lost-and you can loose money very quickly in shipping cost's from different suppliers.

Feeding a 3rd function valve from the PB port is great way to get this done.

I realise this is an old thread but hoping someone will reply. I own a EA2400 - the Australian version of the SC2400, and am trying to understand the hydraulic setup of my machine. Can someone tell me which are the power beyond, pressure and tank return ports on the left side of the fel valve (no. 71) in the picture in post 18? Thanking you in anticipation.
