When you have lucky days like that - you just know you won't get hurt. The Gods want to be sure you are around to make it all right again.

Years ago - I was sucking ashes out of our wood stove with the wife's expensive Electrolux vacuum. I had waited 24 hours for all to cool down but it wasn't quite long enough. The wife let our a scream - I looked back and that uber expensive vacuum looked just like a jet engine when the afterburner kicks in. She enjoyed shopping for a new vacuum.

I had to warn my wife about doing that! Both the vacuuming and the shopping :)

LOL I can just imagine. My wife bought me a vac special made for that purpose to do the wood stove with but I have yet to use it. I just shovel the thing out. I'd sell the vac cheap if you're interested. Comes complete with a spare filter.

I've gotten lucky with clogged vacuums using a fish tape. Reversing the air flow wont do much if there is an inlet between the motor and the clog in the pipe. In that case you can stuff another sock ( really ) into those inlets to force the reversed air along. Try the fish tape if you have one LOL

Our attached garage is 24' x 24', with door 18'x8'. Seemed like we had to have the springs replaced too often. Once by garage door folks, next time myself buying springs from local garage door folks and another time ordering upsize springs off internet. They have lasted at least twice as long as any of the others so far. spec'd springs had something like 15,000 cycle rating, last ones I installed have something like 90,000 cycle rating.

I don't remember the site I ordered from, but similar to this one Garage Door Springs - Fix It ,Torison Springs, Extension Springs ,Self Storage Door Springs,Garage Door Parts, whereas you measure what you have and order a replacement.

Please be careful, they are dangerous.

Seems to me you could use a farm jack or something to get the door up a bit. Once you can get under it you should be able to use something to get it the rest of the way up, your front loader maybe.

The door is 36ft wide and has very substantial wind load reinforcement. I estimate it weights more than a ton. The people that installed it 12 years ago are coming tomorrow morning to replace it. It will be a pita job because there are four vehicles a foot from the door. I need the door get open because I have a flight scheduled for Th morning. Taxi is a problem here. They can't always find our place and if they do they can't figure how to open the gate. I will talk to my neighbor if I can borrow his car so my wife could take me to the airport.

Found the blockage and fixed it. There was a piece of wood long enough not to make the turn in the first elbow. It got apparently sucked in during house construction before the inlets were installed. After I repaired it I sent the offending socks through the vac just to try my luck. It went right through.

Hey, at least you gave a few of us a laugh! It's nice when it doesn't all happen to me for a change ;).

I've accidentally sucked up socks in my whole house vac. They also made it through.

There is still a chance for the third disaster to go wrong today. Hopefully the garage door guys have the right spring on their truck.

I discovered one of the lift cables broke on our garage door by walking into when it stopped at the 6' level.....BAM!

My all-time self-inflicted mishap was when I had my Triumph Tiger 1050 on a paddock stand. Slid the bike forward and one of the wheels hit a crack int the driveway and stopped. The bike tipped over and the fuel tank just caught the corner of the aluminum bags on my VStrom, causing an irreparable dent. This knocked the VStrom over and bent the bag. ****.
