Last time one of those wind up springs broke on my door, I couldn't even find anyone locally that would sell me one. Ended up ordering one over the Internet. :shocked:

At least that garage door spring was captured by the shaft through the center so it could not fly anywhere. The car springs are a different story entirely. If something lets go they are GONE!
I think the problem with cheap Chinese stuff is the poor grades of steel they are made from. They don't have any quality control at all.

Yes. It is more like pot metal instead of sure enough steel hardened.

torsion springs benefit from a light coating of WD-40. And springs are rated by their expected cycle times. Buy the best now and you could have a set out last you. You know the future price will be higher.
