The old adage goes...: "the difference between two wheel drive and four wheel drive is...when you get a 4 wheel drive stuck....it's really struck...!

Shoulda bought a Yanmar. I copied this photo off Yanmar Japan's corporate website long ago.

They're built to run half submerged.

I wonder if that guy tried pulling his tractor forward by curling the loader bucket.

I watch Matt's Offroad Recovery too. That and Noraly - Itchy Boots - now in her sixth year touring every continent on a small motorcycle. Recent posts show Ecuador to Canada and she likely in reality has finished Alaska by now. 1.4 million subscribers. Best narrative of anything on YouTube.

Edit: link added.

I was building houses in Vegas, during the wettest 90-days on record. My subdivision, had turned into a bog, but my boss had insisted we keep trying to work.

A kid practicing on a Case 580 got it stuck in the mud. So, his foreman went over with the 680 chained on and tried to get him out. He stuck the 680 to the frame. Boss got pissed, and took the big excavator to get him unstuck. And ended up with mud two feet over the tracks.

Dirt string boss saw them stuck and chained on the water pull, and stuck it. So, the scraper operator runs over helps him un-chain, and is going to push it out.

Sticks teh scraper. Owner of the dirt string shows up and jumps on the D10, and is going to push the scraper out. Then sticks the D10.

AT which point I tell every body to back off, and try again in the morning, and call my boss to tell him we are shut down.

this circus has destroyed a couple hundred feet of roadway prism, and a dozen house pads, which will all have to be rebuilt.

He of course shows up in his one ton, four wheel drive custom van with his mobile office in the back. He drives out to look at the mess, and sticks the van to the frame. And of course somehow this is all my fault.

He wants to know how I’m going to get his van out. I tell him that when the D10 gets out, we can use it to pull him out. And he goes ballistic and starts blaming me for his mess.

He starts yelling at me, and I’ve had enough that I yell back. I tell him he’s the damned fool who bought a piece of land which had sat undeveloped for decades, because it was full of gypsum and clay and turned to a huge cow patty every time it gets any water on it.

He fired me. Three hours left he called to rehire me. I had already called a few people I knew who had worked for him before and left, and had another job lined out.

You can only put up with stupid for so long.

I watch Matt's Offroad Recovery too.
I do Matt's, Abandoned and Forgotten places, Smarter Every day and a couple others. When I was a kid, we did cave exploring. Too old now so I watch others exploits. Most of the stuff on YT is worthless. I'm very selective in what I watch.

Ok that tops my story. But I watched a concrete mixer back across the sidewalk and sink like he had backed it off the end of a pier.

Yes, he did. If you watch the episode you can see a big hole where he tired to pull himself out with the bucket.

It amazes me everytime I see someone running a loader or TLB with the bucket elevated so he is looking underneath it. Apparently these people have no clue what center of gravity means when it comes to making turns. Or better yet, roading a piece with the bucket elevated-I guess they think it improves visibility.

That made me cringe also. Especially when the LR tire started coming up out of the hole and the tractor tilted sideways.
I've watched and enjoyed most of his videos. Yet some of the things they do make me cringe; like the time they dragged a car out of the desert with no tires, doors flapping in the breeze, and two of his crew members riding in the car.

Recently a couple of videos have come out about the death of an off roader, who was killed when the drop hitch failed while trying to do a kinetic recovery, sending it through the windshield. If you watch the entire video you will noticed that he lifted the hood on a stuck truck before attempting to pull it. He also has been using the winch more and more.

I can't wait to see the maiden voyage of the off road wrecker.

Matt got child protective services called on him over that one. Lizzy was a minor when she was riding/driving that metal sled of a car.

I watch farmers do the same thing while driving down the road with a round hay bale on the bale spear.

You win!!!! :D
There are some pretty good equipment recovery videos on Youtube, also. This is one where the operator was smart enough to shut it down before doing permanent damage.
Letsdig18 is a heck of an operator.

I got stuck with the M6040 once. It wasn't deep mud - it was slick mud. So.... I didn't really sink any at all. Pulled myself out with the bucket.

Two good points on the video. It's not the ocean so - no tides. The engine remains above water so - no engine damage.

I will share this interesting story form the old days. One of my grandfather friend that my dad and uncles used to hang out to go fishing or hunting with when they where kids had a little Ford two wheels drive tractor and he would use this tractor like a quad (quads didn't exist back then this was the early 70's) He would cross creaks, ravine and muskeg, he would drive it until it got stuck then make a camp firer, have lunch, then he would get up and say lets get to work ... He would tie the chains on a trees then pass the chains under the front axel and he had hooks welded on the rims that he would tied it on and used the rear wheels as a winch and I tell you he went everywhere with this tractor there was nothing that could stop him and he never got stuck to the point he wasn't able to get out...

I occasionally watch 'Letsdig18's videos too. I always get a charge out of his 'tree removal's. That Volvo really takes trees out quick. He's a very good operator.

I had to think about this one for a minute... when I first read it at about 4:00 this morning.
Matt got child protective services called on him over that one. Lizzy was a minor when she was riding/driving that metal sled of a car.
I didn't realize that. Some of the things that he shows though, make me wonder what his insurance company thinks.

Apparently somebody also filed a complaint about his dogs; THAT one I don't understand. It reminded me of the post SoundGuy made a few years about the complaint somebody had made about his aging horse out in the field. Some people need to get a life, or at least worry more about their own problems.
