We do! Entergy Louisiana has just added a hurricane charge to our bill of $6 a month for the next 10 years. Of course, if another hurricane hits, the charge for that one will be tacked on to the bill also.

I noticed that we had the same poles down after Gustav that were down after Katrina (but not quite as many). Some of these poles have 3 large transformers on them and can barely stand up in good weather. They should have more poles with one transformer on each but why bother putting out capital to design your system right when they can just charge the customers extra for repairs when anything breaks.

Mr. Bird---Both sides are wrong---but it is always about the money ----they sell winter clothes cheaper in March than they do in November----and they sell swim suits cheaper in December than they do in July----It is all about marketing and profit and sometimes the only way you can level the playing field is to use their game against them. That is why so many older people are getting scammed in so many ways by this younger crowd. It is about me me me. My Father and grandfather would not think of such a thing however they were ethical to their dieing day. But!!!But!!! alot of people and companies took advantage of them. They said if they can live with it I can live without it. Times have changed these companies are as dishonest as the customer that returns the generator----Look at the mess on Wall Street----your generation would have never bought a house that they knew they could not pay the note on!!!!!! (What Note)Somebody did and someone sold it to them! Don't think for a minute that those companies don't have a profit fiqured into those return items! Note the price of the gas can.

Wife ever buy you 2 shirts knowing you'll only like one? hehe mine does. :D How about Christmas. :D Enough on that one....

No, she hasn't.

She has brought home identical shirts of two different sizes, large VS X large (or recently, 2X) and returned the one that didn't fit, keeping the one that does fit. But we never kept a new shirt in the closet in case we need to go somewhere nice, then returned it when the plans fell through. Do you see the difference in that example?

And I would never return a Christmas present from my wife. I haven't been with the same woman for 29 years by being stupid (or rude to her). If she buys me something that she really thinks I'll like, I'll like it.... just like the goofy neck ties my kids get me every year.

Riding up from downtown on the park-n-ride yesterday on I-45 it is still sad to see how much of the power is out on this major freeway. Business are still closed. This means many people who can't afford a $15,000 garden tractor are going through some tough times. I still hear generators in the morning from my neighbors 1 street over without power. All this and some schools started back today, my daughter goes back tomorrow. We still can't drink our water. But we have water and hot water!! Yeah!!

If you don't live down here, you have know idea how big of a deal this was. I'm sure the rest of the country has moved on and it's not seen much on the news anymore. Just like the folks in other diaster areas, we will be dealing with this for a while.

We've had natural disaster here in Indiana, too. Tornados are not all that uncommon and power outages, downed poles, infrastructure damage happens here, as well. Flooding along major rivers. Ice storms. Blizzards. Maybe not over such a large area, but the affected people are in a similar situation... no power for long periods of time. Just be happy it isn't 0 degrees on top of that mess, too.

Right you are. I am quite certain that every area of this country has its weather issues. either hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, winter storms, etc.

And true enough, how soon do we forget disasters we're not involved in.
Who remembers the recent earthquake in China or the Tsunami (sp?) in Sri Lanka?

Not to change the subject here but how many of you effected by Ike are now dealing with more mosquitoes than ever before?

We got a foot of rain thanks to that storm (broke all the records for here) and for the past week we haven't hardly been able to work outside at all with the mosquitoes. I had to go mow the pasture my horses are in just to help reduce the population. Even when I spray them down in the morning before turnout they are still just covered with bumps from all the bites. One of my white horses yesterday got into my alfalfa field which is about 2 feet tall and growing like crazy thanks to all the rain. The poor horse was so covered he was black. I had to hose him down after getting him out of the field.

I am seeing a lot of problems in the near future from the mosquitoes and other side effects of Ike.

welcome to the Louisiana state bird---WTA be careful if they get bad enough they will get in the horses nose and cause them to smother

I had read that they were having to spray for mosquitoes down in the Houston area.
