Moss - I've been in Indiana for one of your colder disasters. Winter of 76 (wasn't it?) lessee ... daughter was born in Mar 77 ...so it was either the winter before or the one after......blizzard so bad - set all kinds of records ... lots of death on the highways .... I was stationed at Grissom - we were restricted to quarters for several days. If you needed emergency rations - you called the snowmobile club and they delivered.......

Dan - spraying for mosquitoes is normal here -- but they do need to step it up a couple of notches cause of the storm. Clute, Tx ... just 10 miles down the road from me has an annual mosquito festival ....believe it or not ....guess they need to celebrate something and they certainly have enough mosquitoes.

I had read that they were having to spray for mosquitoes down in the Houston area.

Dan, they even spray for mosquitos up in this area, nearly every year, including this one, especially in areas in which they have found mosquitos carrying the West Nile virus.

Of course, I know better, but I went outside wearing shorts yesterday evening just after sundown and was out there visiting with the next door neighbor for about 15-20 minutes. I think I only had 8-10 mosquito bites on my legs before I came in.

Yep. Blizzard of 77 was fun. I was 15 at the time. All the neighbors shoveled a walkway from their houses out to the road and then we shoveled a walkway down the road to the highway. It took a week before they could get a front end loader into our neighborhood to clear the street. It was about 42" solid packed snow with drifts that covered tri-level houses. Fortunately, we had electricity. Several years after that there was an ice storm between Grissom and Indianapolis that took out most of the power lines in that county. Some folks went 6 weeks without power.

We lived in KY when the storm in 77 hit. Seems like we had back to back storms. Ended up with 20ish inches of snow. We did not loose power but it was COLD. I think we might have had two good blizzards that year that close everything down. School was shut down for at least a week. Then the teachers went out strike. When school restarted we had to go into late June to make up the lost days. AND we had to go an extra hour a day. Each class was extended by 10 minutes. Does not sound like much but it sure whipped us. I remember being very tired that year. Go to school in the dark and by the time you got home it was almost dark. If you were bused for desegregation you did get home after dark.

When we lived in LA I remember the county/city would spray for mosquitoes. When the fog truck came down the road us kids would ride behind it in the fog.....

Is that cough I have today from the flu?

Years ago I had friends on Marco Island FLA which is on the SW coast in the middle of no where. They would fly DC3's, at very low altitude, over the island spraying. Which was very cool except they did this at sunrise!

I'll have to admit, I'm spoiled to my electric power; don't know what I'd do if mine was off that long. I certainly wish you luck, and hope they get everything fixed soon.
